Anyone Hearing Jersey Turkeys?
« on: April 18, 2015, 07:37:00 AM »
I live in Sussex County in NW Jersey. I've been out three mornings preseason at my go to spot, one of my club's properties, and haven't heard a sound. Normally alive with action. Any of you guys who hunt in that part of the state been experiencing the same?

My wife went to Denver she called and said that there are turkeys out strutting all over the place along the Platte River in Nebraska. I have not heard much from the Iowa turkeys when I was out, at least not anything very close to me.

Knowing it was going to be raining this morning, I decided to put up my blind and at least stay dry. So, as I got to within 30 yds of my planned blind spot, what did I hear? Yup. A nice, loud gobble. Continued on a few steps and two heads pop up out of the tall grass. Two nice big longbeards. Obviously they have been there all along-just not sounding off. Well, this morning, I sat in my blind, heard a couple of responses to my calling, but only had a bearded hen come remotely close. Miserable weather but tomorrow is another day. Supposed to be sunny and warmer.
