It is glued.  I cut the extension leather length to give me an overlap of 1/2 inch and the glue width to the hood is also about 1/2 inch.  The overlap is on the bow side.  I roughed up the hood and used Duco to glue the extension, pulled it snug and clamped in place.  When dry, I sealed the edges with more Duco.  So far it has lasted at least 4 seasons, rain, etc. and I haven't cut myself since.
