2nd Bow Made
« on: October 08, 2007, 08:45:00 AM »
Ok after making a kids longbow with Glenns help a few weeks ago I have now made one from scratch at home by myself. For this one I cut and ground the laminations myseld from American Oak and used some black fiberglass I got for backing a boardbow.I laminated the riser from Kwila(SP) and the oak again with a strip of the black glass. It is about 52 inches long and not sure how heavey as it came out of the form this afternoon so wont bend it until the weekend. It is still very rough as I have only just nocked the glue off and have the hand shaping to go yet.I will put up more pics as it progresses.

Just a bit of an update..........
Ok got into it a bit tonight and couldnt wait until the weekend so strung it and did some tillering and most of the work on the riser and grip.the first pic is as it came off the form and the right lib is way stiff in the middle but I have touched it up and now it is much better. It draws 15 pound at 23 which is the same but the weight is there real early so it may perform better than the longbow which is the same poundage. It is nice and straight and the string sits on nicley.
Cheers KIM

Well almost there finally got a coat or two on the little bow and it has come nice I think.I added Oak and Purple heart overlays on the riser and limb tips also so it will be FF compatable.
Cheers..........KIM

Nice jog there Auz. Maybe one day I will get off my butt and give it a whirl.
