Endless loop on recurve?

I use endless loop on my longbows and recurves.

I've used endless loops but, now I use all Flemish. Mostly for practical reasons. The jig is small and easy to build and fits nicely on the work bench in my apartment. Also you can build a flemish with only one loop and need no jig at all which is what I first started building.

FWIW, preferences change over time it seems.  When I was a dealer for custom bows, I saw "fads" (for lack of a better word) come and go.  For a while it was short bows, then longer bows;  heavier draw weights, then lighter.

In the last few years, it seems endless has become more popular.  I've probably made more endless in the last 2 or 3 years than in the 15 before.

I shoot Flemish strings because that's what I know how to make....but I like the looks of an endless on recurves, particularly vintage 'curves. Gotta learn how to make them one of these days

I just had to learn how to make Flemish, and it was fun, but now that I can do either equally well its pretty much endless.  Nice thing about Flemish is you can make one just about anywhere as long you have string material.

That said, I have never needed a new string in the field.  Always have a broken in spare and have never needed it either.  One of my hunting partners cut his string with a broadhead once.

There was only endless loop when I started this journey.  

Then I assume before my time just a knotted string was the rule.

 Still prefer the endless loop over other methods.

I prefer Flemish twist but my Toelke Chinook and new Pika have endless loop.  They shoot very well and are extremely quiet.  Either one is ok for me, I guess.

You can make endless strings with two different colors for a Flemish look also.

The problems i've always had with building endless loop strings is the serving getting gaps in it over time....

What type of serving material do you use for endless strings Chad? and.... Does the material you use have an effect on the separation i'm getting or is it more likely my serving method?

When I first started archery some of the strings were made out of Linen. At least that is what I thought it was.

In my opinion the gaps come from the serving not being tight enough and also not putting enough back serving to cover up around 1/4 of the place where the loop is tied together.
