Can you buff out Thunderbird finish?
« on: July 20, 2015, 10:17:00 PM »
Just finished spraying a bow and noticed some dust/lint particles in the finish and was wondering if I could let it cure and buff them out? If you have done it what make /kind of buffing compound did you use. I'm looking to get it back to a high gloss finish.

I'm sure some of our professional bowyers will chime in here, but I think you'll get a much better response if you ask this in the bowyer's bench forum.

I use a wet sandpaper 600 or 800 grit to smooth out the finish, then hit it with rubbing compound with a small power buffer I have. You can use a sponge type buffing pad in a drill.(harbor freight) I think the grit is 2500. I use alot of water and be careful on corners and high spots so you dont burn through.
Good luck

Gerald I read some where some guys were using rubbing compounds and paper from auto paint suppliers. Lets see some pictures of the bow.

Looking forward to it, hope we get to shoot together at Hawkeye. I always use the gloss finish but after spraying I go over it with 0000 steel wool and then a paste wax its kind of between a satin and gloss finish.
