SBD Strings
« on: August 05, 2015, 09:24:00 PM »
I was in need of a new sting for my Big River 21st Century bow.  Decided to give one of our sponsors SBD Strings a try.  String came within 2 weeks, specs were right on and performance has been excellent.   Bow is definitely quieter with the new string.  Now to she how much stretch I get as I shoot it in.

Sorry to disagree with everyone. I ordered an 8 strand SBD string last year. It did fit perfectly when I strung my bow. Shot great and quiet. I leave my longbow strung when shooting every day or so. After 2 days I go to shoot and the string had stretched to a point that I lost 1.5" of brace height. The only way to get my brace back was to incorporate so many twists that it was not acceptable. I was able to use it on one of my longer bows.

I've been using SBD strings for awhile, and they've been great, very little break-in stretch.Did you ask Pierre about your string stretching an 1 1/2"? Would like to know what caused that.

Definitely contact SBD if you have a problem.  I know if there's a problem with mine, I want to be the first to know so I can take care of it.

I would definitely contact Pierre. That is NOT normal. I just got an 8-strand SBD string for a Bear AuSable 52#. I strung it, set the brace height and left it over night. In the morning it had lost 1/8" brace height. I re-set the brace height, shot it a few times and left on vacation. When I got home tonight I checked it again and no change.

That's been my experience on nearly all of my bows.

By far the least amount of string stretch during a break in period of any string I've ever used. Pierre is great to work with!

Ran into the same thing on two different occasions. Ended up being able to use a string originally built for a 60" bow on one of my 62" and I eventually had to wind it up considerably when the brace height went too low on that bow as well??

I don't believe there is a machine or hand made product that never, ever has a defect. I once found an upside-down primer in a factory shotgun shell. I would have thought that was impossible.

I have only bought strings from three of the sponsors here on Trad Gang and have been well satisfied with all of them. I like to think if I ever did get a bad string, it would be corrected very quickly by the maker.

That maker would also be the first and only person to hear about it unless it was not corrected.

My experience has always been great with SBD!

I too generally only experience an 1/8" of stretch at most.

These are the only string I use and always improves performance as well as makes my bows significantly quieter.
