left eye dominant

How much does it matter for my 6 yr. old grandson to be shooting right handed and be left eye dominant? For the last year he has been shooting rightie, and I just discovered he is left eye dominant. I am trying to teach an instinctive style, so does having the correct eye over the arrow matter? I myself shoot a gap hybrid style using the point as a reference sometimes.. I just made him a self bow of walnut for right handed use, and wonder if I should go to a left handed bow? Short term...long term...what do you feel? Thanks in advance!

He'll be much better off in the long term to learn to shoot lefty.

I wonder the same thing. I shoot left handed but am right eye dominant.
I do pretty well refty but wonder if I could do better as a righty. I can shoot my wifes righty fair but do not do it often.
I use to play sports in high school and college and had no problem accurately throwing lefty so I would think the same would apply.

I am very left eye dominant but I shoot very well right handed. Never tried left. I dont know if this makes sense but I see double when I aim. The arrow on the left is the one I put under the target. Example point you right finger at an object in the room. Adjust your vision to see double/two fingers. put the one on the left on target. Check by closing your left eye. It should still be on target. Thats how I aim with both eyes open being left eye dominant. Just something I came up with. Whatever works right?

As young as he is, probably, but it is certainly not a requirement. Up to you. It does not matter when shooting instinctive, look at what you want to hit and hit it.

I am left eye dominant and shoot right handed, but the traffic and ring fingers on my left hand do not straighten out (injury). I can't drop the string with my left hand, so I shoot right handed.........and I SUCK!!!!!

I'm right handed and left eye dominant. When I switched to traditional equipment about 15 years ago I also switched to shooting left handed. It was a lot easier to do than I imagined. At his age, I would have him shoot left handed.

Switch him and don't look back. I did that with my son. He's a great shot now.

I'm also left eyed and a righty....
I taught myself to keep both eyes open, at first it makes ya dizzy, now it's no big deal....
I also taught myself to shoot left handed, I'm thinking of getting a ambi bow so I can shoot both ways....
At your Sons young age, I'd switch him to Lefty....

I'm also RH and left eye dominant. It does make a huge difference in shooting (instinctive) left handed, at least for me it sure has. I pick up the arrow in flight much better...it just seems more natural. Wish some one had switched me when I was younger. Good luck, in either way you go.

41 years shooting right handed and left eye dominant. Like others have said, I shoot with both eyes open and I'm concentrating on the spot I want to shoot and not the arrow.
Of course I started shooting before anybody gave a hoot about eye dominance.

I'm very right handed, but the first time I picked up a gun and bow they came up left handed. That is what felt right at the time, long time later I found out I was left eye dominant.
The only thing I do left handed is shoot.
