I cheated on her, now I'm sorry

I won this longbow during a PBS on-line auction several years ago. I actually bid only to get things moving, after a bowyer made a generous donation...

 

It is a nice Golden Archery 60# Howard Hill style longbow.  Nothing too special but she shoots quietly and right where I am looking.  Slow and steady.


Over several years, we became close, we hunted some southern swamps and killed some hogs...

 

As you can see, I am not afraid to get my bows muddy..


 


Then this summer, my local archery club had a benefit auction and I spotted a pretty little thing, a short hybrid longbow with nice wood laminations and yellow string.  The minimum bid was only $80 and I put my name down to get things started, then promptly forgot about it.  Imagine my surprise when I won that bow.  I took her home, strung her up and was impressed with her sleek, compact design, her curves and her speed and power.  I did notice that I couldn't quite come to full draw, but did I mention the speed and power?  The curves?  She put that first arrow right through the new hay bale!

I shot her at ETAR and she did well, even earning a few compliments on her good looks along the way...

 

Then this past weekend, I decided to shoot a few arrows and the bow seemed loud on that first shot, louder on the second shot and the third and final shot ended with a bang...

 

I guess I overstressed the limbs and the lower one delaminated..

I hope my old longbow will take me back...

That's rough man.  You wore that short pretty thing out good didn't you.  Don't worry, the old lady will take you back and welcome you back with open limbs.  Just get the ol' girl some arrows with pretty fletches and she won't complain.  They say red is the color of love.

lol speed kills our  wifes just get even,but  your in trouble when them double AA and C batteries start gone missing out of your head lamp and game cams,think about that before u buy a new bow,,buy her a nice Big Jims light weight bow  with the best woods money can buy she love you for it and your just be a happy camper with a new bow too,,,,

Looks like a compression break.  You must have been drawing it past its happy place.  The thing about speed, no doubt speed is fun, but I have come to have confidence with three guide lines.  Is my head sharp, are my arrows a reasonable weight, and are those those arrows flying so straight that all I see down range is the feathers spinning around the nock.  Past that speed does not matter to me.

I hate it when they go and do that to you!

I'm sure your old girl will take you back with open arms!
