Backyard Range Ideas

Building a house now and will soon have lots of scrap wood that I'd like to put to good use.  I'm looking for ideas, pictures if possible of some of your guys outdoor ranges.  Thinking of a structure that's 6' tall or so with a roof that will accept 2 straw bales maybe.  Like it to have some sort of raised platform to keep the bales off the ground and a roof to keep the weather off them.  Give me some ideas please.  Thanks fellas.

4X4 treated posts, treated wood for the top, shingle roof. It has been there 12 years, I paint it when I have some left over paint from another project.

I highly recommend buying a good bag target instead of using straw. I have had the one in the picture for 12 years as well, it is on it's third cover but they only cost $12.

I've been  mullingover a sand trap for broad head practice. 4-5 feet high in back. Wide enough for your accuracy level. made so you have about 2.5 feet of sand behind your target spot. Leftover deck boards and 4x4s.

The bag target in the picture has eyelets on the top corners, it is hanging on hooks screwed into the uprights.

The bottom bag target is just there to stop low arrows when I back up to 40+ yards. I picked it up in the condition shown for $5 after a big archery tournament. I was going to put a new cover on it but never did.

I made a target 3ft. by 3ft by 11 inches deep out  of discarded carpet pressed tight in a wood frame,its been in the back yard exposed to weather for 3 years now and have not even turned it around yet.Its still in great shape.

Hey Ben you live close to Blackwell forest preserve,theres an outdoor archey range there with targets maintained by the dupage county forest preserve. open all year sunup to sundown

The Morrell Outdoor Range is a good target and will last a very long time if kept dry. It is filled with rags with a cardboard frame, the cardboard will come apart and the rags will mildew if it is left in the weather.

The big Morrel target in the picture is full of a variety of stuff, burlap and Back plastic on the outside, polyester mats on the inside.

Changing the cover is a task and takes a while to pound the target into the cover.

I want to know why there are no arrow holes showing in those 4x4's?

Mine is like Eric's but I have old rubber truck bed liners hanging one in front of the other with 2x4 sandwiched in between so they absorb the impact and stop the arrows.
