Rope length for Torges seat?
« on: September 05, 2015, 09:20:00 PM »
Im making a couple of Torges seats for hunting season. I have done searches on this seat and the diffrent designs but have not seen anyone mention how long they make the rope for their seats. For the guys that use them how long do you make the ropes for your seats?

Depends on how big a tree to used is. It has to be long enough to go around plus some for adjustment. I use plenty......like 8 feet for each seat.

You couldmake it 8 ft then keep about 4 more ft that staus wrapped around the back of the seat where its close to the tree, to tie on to the other if you need more length.

Mine is eight or a bit more.  The trees available to me are pines, spruce and Aspen.  An old ponderosa pine can be pretty big!  The Aspen not so much, but they are slick and take a double wrap.

Rope is light.  No such thing as too long, but there is such a thing as too short.

I have a leg problem and need to sit occasionally even if not on stand.  The torges,   is the best solution so far.  Quiet, easily packed quick to set up.

10- 11 ft won't be a mistake--a knot evet 6 in uses up some rope!!--the lower stretch the better!!

Low stretch is good! I used polypropylene and the stretch factor was very low.

I have a 15 foot rope and it's unwieldy. I'm considering cutting it down to 10. I'm sure that will fit most trees

I believe it was Pat McManus in "Loose Ends" who said "Give a man enough rope and it will still come out six inches too short."

I don't remember the length, but I made 4 last year...used 3/8 poly rope. I figured out the first one's length by putting it on the seat, and then figuring out how I was going to wrap it up most effectively and put the tag end into one of the holes to keep it all wrapped during transport....then I cut it to that length with about 4" extra. I usually use a heat-a-seat pad for more comfort, and the rope clamps that in place nicely on the seat for transport

I figure its 9-10 ft. always have had enough, and they pack easy with no un-raveling because I made it so the rope was the right length to be properly stored ahead of time.

here's mine...looks like about 3-4 wraps, around 12" center, plus a bit more...so maybe 10-12 ft?

I added neoprene from old waders and stainless hex-heads to the tree side for a bit more bite.

And spray painted the bottom.

I stopped using rope and started using Nylon strap. It grabs the tree better and wraps around the seat flatter for packing. I never measured the length, but it is long, and I can sit some pretty big trees.
