I just made up some new 2016's
I had went the route of wood but just couldnt get the accuracy and consistency.

Not pooing on woodies, just not working for me.

The 2016's are dialed in and very accurate (even for me shooting)

Preston, if you shoot good quality, properly spined and set up arrows they fly as well as any other material. Check the scores at big 3d shoots in the "traditional" (wood arrows) recurve and longbow classes.

X2 on that. All i shoot are woodies and when they dont go where i want them or dont fly true it's because of me....drop bow arm, not hitting anchor, bad release, not focused, etc....but when i do my part they shoot awsome and hit where i look! When you decide to try them again hopefully you can find someone who builds their own woodies/shoots woodies and they can help you out with tuning them to your bow. When you get a set that are tuned well you will be amazed how good they shoot.

Sometimes it's a mental thing, But ya do need properly tuned woodies and you need to do your part.
I once shot a 31X at shoot on a 54 yard wild boar target....
Woodies can do the job, But I also use 2016 legacys....

I think its very cool that we have so many choices on different shaft materials.....

There just ain't nothing sweeter than a beautifully balanced hand crafted set of woodies. but they take a lot of TLC to build a matched set.

Aluminum will hands down give you the best consistency in spine tolerances & weight, but they can bend easily, and long term durability is worse than woodies.... Once they are bent, you'll rarely straighten them and have them fly the same.

Carbon shafts come in a wide range of tolerances and grades. In order to get a finely tuned matched set, requires almost as much effort as tuning woodies depending on the shafts. But they rule supreme in durability.... and...they are either dead straight, or broken.

I was really surprised at the difference in spine readings in carbon shafts just rotating the shaft.... the manufacture and shaft grades can make a huge difference for discriminating archers who are seeking a truly matched set of arrows.....

The skill level of the archer has a big part in being able to fine tune arrows & be able to see the difference. With the average archer, ignorance is bliss and it just don't matter how closely their arrows are matched up as long as they are hitting their spot enough to be comfortable. For some guys its a pie plate at 15 yards. For others its a silver dollar at 25-30 yards..... That kind of shooting requires fine tuned arrow shafts regardless of the shaft material.

Assuming proper tuning and form, I don't think most of us are good enough archers that the little bit of difference afforded by one type of shaft material over any other will have a noticeable effect on our performance... That is until you figure in the psychological consequences. If we feel that we perform better based on shaft material, enhanced confidence might well make a difference. So, once again, the decision comes down to personal preference and confidence in tuned equipment.
