Back at it this evening. And with some good help.
« on: October 09, 2015, 06:30:00 PM »
Had a really bad evening Monday.  Took a couple days off from deer and squirrel hunted with my kids, then took care of a few other things.  Did a a little scouting this morning and back out with my bow in this crisp 93 degree Louisiana weather.  I've been telling my son he could come bow hunting with me some time and I've got this natural brush blind under a cedar tree with plenty of room for both of us.  First time I've hunted this spot, but I have lots of deer on camera on a trail at about 10 yards.  Feeling hopeful if the wind will cooperate and he can stay still.  Got a little help on the staying still part.  Here's my partner in crime and the view from our cedar bush.

We had a nice evening.  A doe and a fawn came in from our left to about 15 yards.  We got busted there, but it was my fault.  I turned my head to check if he could see them and she saw me.  I wasn't going to shoot one with a spotted fawn with her, but I would have liked to have gotten her into shooting position where my son could see her better.  They circled around behind us and she smelled us once they were downwind.  Still a fun evening.  That's the closest he's been to a deer the wild.

Matt.. didja explain to the boy what just happened ?

Sounds like a very great opportunity to describe how deer can smell you and the wind and, well a lot of things he may need to know when it is his turn.

Thanks for sharing.

Yes sir.  Both of us are sorta science nerds, so if anything, things tend to get over explained.  He loves to learn and I try to teach him all I can.  My daughter is wanting to go on my next hunt with me.  That'll be real interesting.

Gotta love the Pink chair...

Sounds like a great shared experience... you go out and walk around to see how visible the chair might be?

What a treasure you're sharing with your kids! Kudos!
The words "Child" and "terminal illness" should never share the same sentence! Those who care-do, others question!

Not very visible.  I can see it, but deer don't see colors in the red range of the color spectrum, so I don't think it's an issue.
