Memorable hunt @ True South Adventures
« on: October 15, 2015, 04:38:00 AM »
Hi!
Just back home after some fun days hunting @ Tarponnuts (Jim Dussias) True South Adventures place near Fort Pierce, Florida.
Jim Dussias, and Irv that runs the True South Adventures did a fantastic job, following us up on every way possible for making the hunt a memorable time for two novice bow hunters from Norway.
We were lucky to meet with his partner Irv, and his friend Bill Langer that helped us out to the stands the first evening, and giving us friendly advises for the hunt.

The place they have is very nice with both pinewoods, palmettos, fields ant thick brush.
We were lucky friday night where both of us had hogs coming in to the stands, but in eager effort or wind    ;)  ) the hogs discovered us and went off.

Had two of these goodsized hogs at the stand      :)

A good reason for a grin on the Pine stand    :)
With a healthy dose of madness and bad memory, life`s a wonderful journey

Saturday was also a memorable day when Jim had another cool experience we`ve never tried before up his sleeve, and that was bow-fishing! The area has a lot of canals wit Gar and other fishes.
Jim was kind enough to lend us his bowfishing equipment and with Jim as our guide the fun begun    :D

Instructions with Jim   :)

Picking a spot  :)

The result...a nice Gar   :)
With a healthy dose of madness and bad memory, life`s a wonderful journey

My hunting Buddy Per Kristian did a good job in the fishing biz:

PK in good form!

Per Kristian and Jim with another fish  :)

This is an awesome and social part of bow and arrow, I would recommend for everybody both novices and experienced hunters. It`s social and an demanding @ the same time. And next time we`re of for the hoghunt, we would plan to grab with us the lunch and a cooler for drinks and stay out between the morning and evening hoghunt, and just relax and do the bowfishing.

@ Sunday morning after I had just climbed my stand for the morning hunt and not even been able to hoist up my bow, there the biggest Hog I`ve ever seen in the wild suddenly appeared from the bushes opposite the track I had moved in on. It was jetblack with erected ears like a Dobermann, and a body as a full-sized wine barrel with feet’s. It was at least the triple size of the hogs I had seen friday night.  And I sat there without even blinking my eyes thinking about how in the worlds I would be able to hoist up the bow, put an arrow on the self and do this hog…But as in many hunts, the unthinkable happened, it crossed my ingoing tracks and was off as a lightening!
But what an experience to see such an animal in its habitat.

Nothing more happened in the morning hunt before I decided to sneak back to the car for taking a late breakfast. When I was down I decided to take a selfie near the stand with my camera and tripod…and of course after I had set the timer and walked 5 feet backwords, the brush behind the stand exploded and one or more hogs disappeared in to the thick brushes of the palmettos.

the ccol part is that it happened just when the cmera went off, and if U look good you might see the hog  :)

Had I just waited another 30 minutes…But hey, that`s hunting, expect the unexpected 

I felt very lucky to have the oppertunity to hunt in these beautiful woods  :)

The last evening hunt went without seeing hogs, but again I think the acorns were more interesting than us and the corn.
After the highways with hog-tracks in the hunting-area, there is no doubt that this place is very rich on hogs and minimum one hogzilla because that I`ve seen with my own eyes 

I will in the end of this story Highly Recommend True South Adventures for good hunting grounds, very good stands with harnesses all over, and some of the most  polite and professional people I ever have had the pleasure of hunting with, they did all in their effort for helping us to have a good experience and perfect time. That we didn’t kill any hogs was just in my opinion bad luck spiced with inexperience from us two hunters.

We slept at Sleep Inn Hotel in Fort Pierce, dined @ Applebee`s  and Cowboys BBQ  Steak,  they`re all  highly recommendable as well!

So if you’re out looking for a good hunt, then take a look on True South Adventures in Florida and give Tarponut here on TG a PM

It was a real pleasure having Ronny and Per Kristian in camp. They live in Norway where bowhunting is illegal somehow. This hunt took on a particular importance for me because of that fact plus the fact that they were really nice guys coming in with positive attitudes.
I think we were snake bit by the bumper acorn crop this year. Per kept hearing pigs fighting and carrying on but not coming in, no doubt enamored with the dropping acorns.
The first evening Per had a big boar at the feeder 7 yards away for several minutes with no shot!He did the right thing and passed on the bad angle.
(trail cam info is wrong, it's usually not dark at 8:37 AM:)

Great story.  I wish those 2 could've arrowed hog, especially that TOAD that came in close.  Imagine the stories and pics they could've taken back with them to their pals.

Sounds like a great time was had anyway.  Hope you all come back soon.
