If they're still anything like the '66 Kodiak I have, or the '69 Super K I used to have, then they're awesome.   ;)   Haven't shot the new ones but I hear they're still pretty awesome.  I personally would get a custom because you can get a good mid range custom for around the same price and I like the idea of having a one of a kind bow, but I doubt the custom would shoot any better.  Be sure to share your thoughts with us if you get one.

I like the looks also, but cannot justify the price of twice what the original is selling for.

Besides, it comes with quiver inserts and I cannot stand holes in a bow like that.

I had the oppurtunity to shoot a new black phenolic sk and it was very comfortable to shoot.  The performance was better than my 66 kodiak.  trying to decide between that and a bear takedown for my next bow.

Sure looks like a long riser with short working limbs.  Going to shoot one to find out

I bought a greenie from Big Jim in closeout for $399 and this Grayling shoots as well as any custom bow I have shot that was made for me. I didn't care for the string, so I had a custom one made by 60X Strings. I haven't chrono'd the bow yet, but don't have any reason to as it shoots OK.

I have shot Bear Recurves, since I was a kid. I have a "modest" collection of older Bears, averaging 40 years old. I personally believe that the new Bears are every bit as good as the old ones. In fact, after wanting & wishing for one for over 40 years... This year I bought a new Kodiak T/D from Big Jim!!!

Will the new Bears be around as long as the old Bears??? Only time will tell!!! However, I can't see any reason why they shouldn't be!!!!!

If you like it, I'd say BUY IT!!!!! I'm sure you won't regret it in the long run.....
I only shoot WOOD arrows... My kid makes them, fast as I can break them!

If they would make them without the quiver inserts I'd buy one

I have a 1970 S-K and in appearance to me the new ones are not even close. The Black phenolic model would be in the same class. As far as how they shoot I can't honestly say but if they are as good than I would say buy one if you like them. The other option is to buy a vintage one for half the price or less. There is probably one in the classifieds here.

I just got a 67 1/2 Super Kodiak and it is a solid shooter...the thing with the new ones is they will probably just depreciate in value...as the older ones become even harder to find I believe the prices will rise again...and they are quite low right now

I set out a while ago to reduce my herd of 40 bows...And I am finally down to 42

I had a 2014 GG model and it did not fit my hand well at all. I have small hands and the grip was full with a somewhat high wrist and it just didn't fit my hand. If the grip fits you, they are fine shooters.

Mark, call Bobbie Frome at Performance Archery and see if he has a new SK in stock. May not have the Black one but at least you could get a feel for it. I think he would be closes to you. From what I gather from reading about the Bear's the grips change from year to year. At the price I would not want to take a belt sander to it like I did to one you sold me.

Any idea of the brace on the new bows? I have a friend who got one from Cabelas and the brace was set at about 6", seemed low to me but I shoot longbows.

I wrote Bear about that a while back. They said they would not offer one without inserts. Maybe someone close to Bear Archery could persuade them otherwise, like BigJim.

I have two mid 70s Super Ks. They both seem to like a brace of around 7.5" Both are dreams to shoot.

I have both of mine at 8"" BH. Used to go 7 3/4 but recently with carbon arrows 8" works better.
