A day for memories
« on: October 17, 2015, 04:51:00 PM »
The morning started out cool with a sky full of stars and no moon. Song dogs moaned and wailed up on the mountain. My neck hair bristled.
The drop in temps had me excited to get out, hoping deer movement would be good. I praised The Lord all the way up the mountain. It was quite dark, with the Sun's light reflecting off Venus to light my way.
Once I left the trail, I stumbled over a few fallen branches that had come down since last I was there. I thought the morning was ruined when deer started to sound off with loud, blowing snorts! They had heard my mistake! I could hear them move off.
I moved into my spot. I began to remove my gear when I realized my jacket fell off my quiver when I stumbled. I don't want to move anymore, so I decide to tough it out without it.
In made a couple hours, but finally need some warmth. I looked around with my binos, and spotted the jacket within 15 yards. I carefully snuck over and grabbed it.
Putting on the jacket was a relief. I settled back down, and began to think of hunts that seemed to start out bad, but ended well. This brought back confidence to put in some time.
Finally aroun 9, I see a few deer filtering through just below me. The sun filtering through the colorful leaves at an acute angle, and deer feeding on acorns. It doesn't get any better!
The wind is perfect, blowing in my face and slightly across.
After a while, I packed up and headed for a place on my way out, that might be holding late morning deer. Maybe I could put on a stalk. Sure enough there were deer..... and acorns! I could hardly walk or stalk. I managed to close the distance to 30 yards. I loosed an arrow to an unseen branch, which was sliced in two. The arrow fell to the ground, the deer scurried off. I'm having a great morning with all this action. Finally, I get to the bottom of the mountain. One last spot before the road had a buck and some does watching me head out. I haven't had so much fun in some time.

I will give thanks to the LORD because of his righteousness and will sing praise to the name of the LORD Most High.
