We're going to be pheasant hunting just south of bismark and a little towards mott.  My dad set this one up while I was charter fishing this summer so I have to be honest I really don't quite now what he's picked out.  Going to do the public land gig.   Both of us are shooting double barrel blackpowder shotguns for this.  Have thought about trying the longbow for this, either way it's going to be a hoot, something we've never done before.

Gonna be deer huntn there, and maybe some more bird mm mm mmm mmm m mmm mmmissn  ;)   I bought my lil bro a longbow this summer from Dale Arner.  Sounds like he's shooting pretty dang good, so it'll be fun finally having someone in the family whose go the passion also.   There are no other bowhunters in my family, ugg.

Thanks Willy, it'll be a hoot.

Well I've been home two days now.

Had my lil bro's bday party the other day.  Finally got out hunting last nite.  Shot a nice forky, 12 yards deer went 60 yards and fell over.  Was a bit tickled to say the least.  The liberty did it's job.  Kind of hard to swallow though, FIRST NITE  ;) .   Had some tenderloins for dinner....man it's been TOOOOO long.

STill tuning my lil bro's bow.  He's shooting fps fine, bh's are WAY off, having a hard time finding the alum's we need here locally.  Gonna have to run to the cities, ugg.

Alpine.

I'm in the forest lake area.  We'll more then likely be coming through your area.  We were supposed to leave tomorrow, however that changed slightly.  Sounds like there is a group we are going to join leaving on wed of next week.   Drop me an email, hopefully we can atleast stop by.

[email protected]

Gonna pick up my fowl stamps and head out for geese this weekend.....should be fun, a pair of double powder burners  :D .   Maybe do some rooster hunting here in Mn also.

Dan,

How's life?  Haven't talked to you in a long time.

Did you ever make a bow using the plans I sent you?

Enjoy your time back in the lower 48.

Carl

Carl,

Nope I havent built any bows yet.....it'll happen.   Someday  ;)   Actually I did do a bbh, and a hickory stave not so long ago, both came in grossly under weight, lesson learned here.  I really end up with to dog gone many projects to start something else.  Have a pair of flintlock fowlers waiting, just finishing up on the canoe finally, some turkey calls before xmas to those who helped me out for this past spring, jeesh what else lol, oh there is one other "major" project, but I cannot post it here.  Ok ok there is two, I figured out my footed shaft jig while on the ocean this summer, something about water, clients and fish leaves lots of time to think  ;) .

Actually I do have a couple of the dryad blanks.   I want to finish them before spring, one kids bow and one adult bow is a gift, the 3rd is mine to hopefully take my first black bear with.   That is IF the liberty doesnt steal the glory  ;) .

Sad thing about being gone from april to sept every year, doesn't leave a ton of time for finishing projects.  And now I'm loosing the condo's garage to do it in, double UGG>   Trying to convience my wife to turn my hunting room into a shop.  Dunno if you dont know we live in a condo, which is nothing more then a 2 story apt building and we live upstairs.   I bet the folks below us would love me for this  ;) .

It is good to hear from ya, keep in touch, email addys are the same.   Could have used a moose or deer partner in AK this fall.  Everything ended up falling through, no partners!  And I was even willing to go as far as to pay the the bush flight out and back on the deer hunt due to how short of notice that hunt came about.   So instead of hunting AK this year, I'm here in MN, getting blown and rained on sideways right now...good day to sleep in  ;)

Had the bestest and worstest day of my bowhunting career yesterday morning.....He was BIG BIG BIG BIG!!!!

Left the spot 12 years ago, had a hunch, went right back to where I left off and wamo, there he was.  This place has big bucks, and used to have LOTS of them.  Not much has changed, there are still BIG BIG bucks here, yet not as many and more pressure.

Never ever ever ever lead a deer, 10 yards, broadside.  Hittem just a tad higher then I wanted but perfect left and right.  Never have we exhaustively searched following nothing more then tracks in the woods, with leaves falling and managed to get so far.  I don't believe he's dead, only bedded once, which we bumped on the blood trail.  Had my lil bro situated on an escape route which he had a shot on but missed.

Throughly disgusted with myself, yet hopeful he's alive.

lost for words...........

A short note....

Went back today.  Found some tracks from either this morning or last nite in the same area that re ran part of the trail we followed 2 days ago that were the big splayed toed buck I screwed up on.  It' doesnt make it any easier to swallow, but it is enlightening to see I didnt wound and loose this monarch!  He's still out there roaming the woods.
