McBroom Traditional String Follow Longbow
« on: November 12, 2015, 06:58:00 PM »
Got a bug the other day and ordered one of Brian's stock bows.  I saw one on his website that caught my eye, and sent him an email asking if it was available.  He replied within a couple of minutes, and a few emails later, I had a payment headed his way.  He shipped the bow that afternoon, and it was at my Post Office today.  Four days from initial contact to delivery,   with  a holiday in the middle!  I emailed Brian several times in the last few days, and I think his   longest  response time was about 10 minutes!

I immediately unpacked it (nicely packaged in a PVC tube and well padded), strung it up, and took it out shooting.  Even with a bare string, this thing was   quiet!  With the addition of a few strands of BowHush to the string, it was   silent!!!  The only thing I could hear from behind the bow was the "swish" of the string cutting the air!  Seems to have good cast.  I've never chrono'd a traditional bow, but to my calibrated eye, this one seems to fling an arrow quite nicely for its style and weight.  Speaking of weight, like most of its kind, the bow is  very light in the hand!  Its a joy to carry around and shoot, especially if you're used to shooting heavier bows.

I hadn't shot a 'straight limbed' or 'string follow' longbow in years, but just a few minutes fiddling with my grip and I was hitting my spots pretty consistently.  In fact, I'd say this bow had about as short a learning curve as any I've ever pulled a string on.  There's just something nostalgic and fun about an "old-timey" style bow!

The only thing I can say that's less than glowing, is that the bow does have a little kick, or hand-shock.  It isn't bad, or even unpleasant at all.  In fact, I kind of liked it!  Let's you know you're shooting a real bow!   :D   Despite all kinds of bowyer claims to the contrary, I've yet to shoot a bow of this type that doesn't have some kick, and this was minimal.

Fit and finish on the bow was nice.  It's not a fancy bow, but very well done.  Spent all afternoon shooting, so no time for a bunch of pictures, but here's just one for the folks who don't read so well.

A Mcbroom cedar string follow is on my short list. I really like your target stand.
