Arrow question
« on: November 14, 2015, 05:09:00 PM »
Hi Folks!
quick question for those of you that shoot carbon-what is the best way to achieve the proper arrow weight?
I am under the impression that around 10 grains of arrow weight per pound of draw weight on bow.
if I am shooting a 50 pound bow at my draw, then I would need approximately a 500 grain arrow give or take. if im shooting a 3555 gt trad, those are somewhere around 8.6 gpi, and at a 29.5" arrow with a 125 grain tip, that puts me at only 378.7 roughly. if I start throwing a bunch of weight up front then that would change my arrow spine?
thanks in advance for any help

Weight tubes. You can get them at 3Rivers archery.

Just went through this myself with a 50# recurve. Ended up with 500's and a 250 point. Total weight 525gr. So yeah with carbons you need to add weight.

Either weight tubes in your current arrow, or move up to. 55/75 with a 100gr  brass insert and retune.

I'd go up in spine and use brass inserts or heavier tips (or both), and cut the full length shaft back a little at a time. Or mess with the shelf.

Personally, I prefer that over the weight tubes.
