Are they(whitetails) smarter then I thought?

Every night on my way out of the woods in the dark, I remove any sticks that are in the trail. Then every morning (suspiciously) there are more sticks in the trail. For me to trip on and make a bunch racket. After 40 plus years of hunting them I'm starting to wonder if they are smarter than originally thought.

The deer have nothing to do with sticks on the trail, I don't know how you can think such a thing. It's the trees, they think that it is their job to protect the deer. Trees are way smarter than we think.

Trail gnomes. Its the trail gnomes. And they bite, the little ********s. And they have bad gas. Why do you think deer run away when they smell something.... Trail gnomes...

It's a conspiracy. They are all in cahoots.
