Is this unusual?
« on: November 17, 2015, 01:52:00 PM »
I was out hunting the other night and saw 5 bucks all traveling together. The biggest was at least 150 in. I grunted and couldn't get any of them to come in.

Scrapes by me dried up and I have not seen any rutting activity in over 2 weeks.

It certainly has been an odd year.

The wind, normally from out of the West / North this time of year, has thus far been from a Southern quadrant nearly every day this season.

I saw NO scrapes or rubs on my property in da UP a week ago.   Now, we are really low on deer this year....but still...

Rifle started here Sunday. Sunday and Monday I saw 6 deer. All six were bucks all in the same acre of swamp. Two laid down in front of me at 65 yds and stayed about an hour. Warmer than I've ever hunted in.

It is what biologist call a breeding party. I have seen it several times.

I have seen it here in PA also but only in really prime habitat. Never see it in the mountains where the going is tougher.

Probably a hot doe with them. May have been laying down, trying to avoid them.

Nothing unusual about our season everything has been happening around there normal times. We're on fire right now here! Bucks running everywhere the main rut is just starting, dead deer laying all over the highways. My brother and I killed two huge bucks end of last week, mine was the biggest bodied buck I've ever seen dressed at 242# not a good scoring buck but one I've been after for a long, long time he's 9.5 yrs old. My son missed a huge 10pt which is unusual but he will get revenge I hope.

Like TJ said could be a hot doe hiding around there somewhere. I had a doe run up one time and bed flat right under my stand on a bench while three bucks spent 25 minutes running around trying to find her. They finally did!

It is common to see groups of bucks together, but I haven't seen these groups during the rut.
