Summit Viper Seat
« on: December 06, 2015, 09:21:00 PM »
I like Summit stands but I have never really cared for the seat on my Summit Viper.  It gets in the way when I climb and when I try to stand with my back to the tree.  Has anyone found an aftermarket seat that works better?

Watching this one very closely!  Would like to find one too.

Thanks guys, I searched on the internet and found a source for the Hazmore seat. The seat looks like its made up of a net material.  I placed an order for one and I look forward to giving it a try.

I tried it but the front part of the seat cut into the back of my legs after a while. I went back to the seat that came on it and just slide it back out of the way when I stand.

JR, if you try the silent seat again.. Give the front more slack and tie the open net part tighter.

My new Hazmore seat arrived Friday evening and I got a chance to test it today.  I was able to climb with no interference from the seat and I was also able to lean back against the tree with no problem.  As the guys mentioned above, the seat just slides back out of the way.  Thanks to CWilder and Robertfishes for the recommendation.  This seat works great!

Hazemore seat has been my choice for over 3 years now. Not only does it easily slide back when you stand BUT I like that you can clearly see the teeth of the climber going into the tree while climbing or descending... More confidence, especially in the dark

I've had the Hazemore seat on my Summit for several years now and it's doing fine. Like Tradcat said I can see the teeth and tree better. And I sit higher in my stand.

Do you fellas have much trouble shooting from that type of stand with the rail on it? Looks like it would be sweet to climb with. RC

I hunted from an API stand for quite a few years, same type stand with the rail around it. I would just set the seat platform lower it made standing up a little harder but the rail was not a problem.

The rail makes climbing a breeze.  You can climb part way up the tree and then just pause and sit comfortably for a while.  This keeps you from working up a sweat and it helps to keep down noise.  With the Hazmore seat, I can lift my knees higher with each move of the platform and therefore I can climb higher faster.  The new seat puts you closer to being level with the top of the rail.  You can lower the rail and still be seated high enough to keep your knees at a comfortable angle.  As far as shooting goes, I was able lean back against the tree in the photo and shoot my 58" recurve bow over the front and the sides of the bar with no problem.

I'll second the Hazmore seat.  I hated the original seat because it gets in the way and I was seated way too low.  The Hazmore seat sits me up a little higher so that safety bar is out of my way.  Your bottom may get a little colder when using the Hazmore seat.  That's the only drawback I can think of.  I also added a Molle II backpack frame (**** purchase) because the straps that Summit provides are a joke.  Now my stand is comfortable to sit in and backpack in.

One more tip. Tie the front part so it don't fall like in the photo in above post. It tends to get hung up on stuff walking around the woods.
I just tie the Roland bottom part of the seat together

RC
I've been hunting out of a viper for 4 years now. You do lose some shooting if the deer come behind you.
I normally keep the top and bottom section really close to each other when in the tree. Where the top section is below my knee. I tend to stand 90% of the time when bow hunting so I'm really not worried about comfort
