Hogs in Colorado
« on: December 07, 2015, 01:20:00 AM »
Hey Gang,
I am wondering if anybody has any information on hog hunting in Southern Colorado? I have heard that they are moving North and can be found in some areas of Colorado.
Sure would love to take a weekend trip and bring home some bacon.
Thanks for any info!

I'm sure there are a few spots here and there but the division of parks and wildlife goes to great lengths to keep them out. A couple years ago the hogs were moving up along the Cameron and they would do go out in helicopters with AR 15s and shotguns to get rid of them. This is in area 12 which is the southeastern most part of colorado. I don't know if you would have better luck going further west.

In my opinion if you want to get into some thick hogs go to Oklahoma. I'm sure there are many ranchers there that would buy you a beer for everyone you kill.

Your surest answer will come from Travis Black, he is the states go to pig man. He can be reached at the division's Lamar office.

Some popped up in the south west part years ago.  A farmer shot 2 in a week and never heard of them again.  There are a few in New Mexico,  I always drive to Oklahoma or Texas

Well that was interesting, Ralph...

According to that LINK, it seems that there are more hogs in SE COLO then they want and it's "katie bar the door" when it comes to shooting them...

Better'n some states that made it illegal to hunt them period... the reasoning I read was they were AFRAID that people would then start "stocking" wild hogs to be able to hunt.

Best comment I read about wild hogs is that a sow will have 7 piglets and raise 8!

Now THAT is prolific!     :(

I'm sure there have been sightings and even some killed. But I don't think they are prolific like they are in other states. Not at least to make that kind of a trip.  Like stated above. Oklahoma and Texas would be your best bet. We've been making the trip to Texas at least for the last few years in February and March. Well worth the trip and probably some of my favorite spot and stalk hunting.

There are a few along the Arkansas river far Southeast.  It's not much further to tx or OK.
