Most times your broadhead weight will be the same as your field points. If want heaver broadheads then you will need stiffer arrows to keep your flight good etc.

Far too few details provided... from bow to game pursued...to personal objective

Even having all the pertinent information, the individualist factors will likely reduce recommendations to ball park ranges.

I use wood arrows, 29" with a 125 grn Black diamond, two blade Eskimo and it works just fine out of my 40# long bow. I try to get my stones points to weigh in at 100 to 110 grns.

I use 1535 Gold Tips with 125 grn screw in points when shooting in 3 D courses.

75 grain and above.  There are far too many variables to give you an idea of what to use.  Typically on my 45 lb bows I use 125 and 150 grain points but with my carbons I am using 250.

It will be more important to get arrows flying good from your bow and then getting broadheads to match the field point weight.

As far as your long bow its a  tough one where there would be guys here better to answer this than me.  It would be helpful to know the length of your arrows and how long your draw length is.  Also if you know the measurement of the shelf off center.

I'm thinking your arrows are too weak and you should move to a  500 spine.  If you use those arrows out of a  40-45 lb bow, I think you should start with 125 grain points and work your way up.  I am guessing, you shouldn't need to go past 150. But in the end, your arrow flight will tell you what you need.

Good luck and do not forget to have fun.
Relax,

I'm not surprised on your Jaguar Elite. I bought a 50# one a few months back and with 30.5" 500's it took a 300gr head to get it right.

The only real way to tell is to get your bow, and your arrows, and tune with field points till you figure out what needs to be on the front end!

I would suggest you also use some brass inserts to get your arrows to tune.

With my 47lb Palmer I use heritage 150's with a 50gr brass insert and 160gr Palmer Extreme cut broadhead. Or I use the Heritage 150 with the supplied insert with a 200gr Muzzy Phantom broadhead. Both combinations come to 210grs up front.

I think Bisch nailed it. Field points are relatively cheap - good broadheads not so cheap.

Once you get your arrows tuned to your bow with field points, THEN its time to go broadhead shopping. You can buy good, efficient broadheads from 125 gr to 300 gr as necessary. Plus, as pointed out, there are light and heavy inserts to help out once you know what total weight you need.

They never suffer with a snuffer, I shot 150 grain out of 40lb r/d longbow.

They blow right thru deer and leave holes and blood trails like I never seen.

Im shooting 44lbs at my draw.
Arrow 1535 gt traditional
50gr insert
and 250gr 2 blade vpa.

It depends on what your hunting and what weight your is best tuned with.
But it also depends on what you want.

Much good input.

I shoot a 47# SAS LB and had to go UP in spine from .400 to .340.

That's with 100 gr brass insert and 200 gr. heads.

Each bow/bowyer at a given pound draw, will have different performance characteristics...everyone has their favorite. I know I do...

I have 100, 125, 145, 175, 200, 225, 250 and 300 gr. screw in field points.  Once I have the arrows dialed in with FP, I then put on equal weight BH.  I cut from the rear and move fletch 1/4" forward to allow for small cuts... to do final BH tuning.

Many sponsors here would have varied weight FP and perhaps if you bought a wide range, they'd provide you with 1/2 dozen of each?

Good luck! No short cuts! Live fiber materials in stick bows and highly varied lay ups and designs from different bowyers = same draw weight but different performance.

Tune to your bow, then worry about BH's.

PS: Just for me, I found that BH of same weight s hot slightly weaker then same weight FP.  I speculate (no way to prove) that the BH has the weight spread out on a longer plane then a compact, fat FP... Elongating the shaft overall thus making it appear weaker... FWIW
