Looking for tips/advice on youth arrows.  My oldest son is 10 and he's been shooting an old 35# Black Bear off and on for the last year or two.  His arrows aren't matched to it, but I haven't really worried about it cause he hasn't been that into it yet.  He grew a lot in the last nine months and his draw length lengthened a couple inches, which increased the draw weight he was shooting making it difficult for him to shoot.  I just refinished an old 25# or 30# Bear Ranger (weight isn't marked but I can tell its lighter than the 35# Black Bear) that I was given and his new string for it should come in either today or tomorrow.  This one will be more enjoyable for him to shoot, so I want to get some arrows tuned for him so he can shoot the best possible.  Maybe that'll get him really hooked.  Problem is, the only arrows I can find for less than 30# are the cheap fiberglass ones with the pre installed tips.  I've heard of people using hardwood dowels for youth arrows and thought I might go that route.  I could use some help getting the right size and some tips on picking the ones that'll work the best and be the most consistent.  This will be my first time doing anything with wooden arrows so I'd be going in blind right now.  Also, what arrow length and point weight should I start out with for him with this setup?  He's drawing around 22", but I expect that to go up pretty quickly.  Any help would be appreciated.

Matt, we have some light spine shafts that you can see on the sponsor's classified section.  I have cheaper than the ones listed as a option.  P.M. or get my phone number off our web site and we can talk of all the options.  Steve

In wood, you don't need to go to a 25# spine.  A 5/16 cedar or Doug fir arrow that's spined 30-35 will work fine.

Thanks guys.  I may be in touch Steve.  Not sure when I'll get a chance to order.

Another option would be some cheaper 700 spine carbon shafts.  Super tough and should last him a long time as long as he doesn't lose them.

Here is what I fletched up for her.

  carbon shafts

My wife draws around 27# on her bow at 26" and I was able to get the, tuned nicely.

I'm a big Surewood & wood arrow fan, but would suggest looking into Easton Jazz alum arrows or shafts.  I use the 1616 in 4H and I think the 1716 would be perfect for the 25-30 lb.

My grand kids run carbon from victory arrows I believe. Two different spines.
Acers I think. Have to look. They really fly and stick in the target no more bounce outs..
