matching cedar shaft weight
« on: December 30, 2015, 09:54:00 AM »
I have a question on matching the weight of wood shafts.
I have purchased cedar shafts from a couple of different vendors, and can get them within 10 grains within the dozen.
However from one doz. to another, they might vary as much as 50 or 60 grains.
Is there anyone who sells cedar shafts to a specified weight (within 10 grains) up front? As an example- I would like to buy a couple of doz. cedar shafts in 60-64 spine, that weigh 400 grains at 32" long.

Surewood will get you the weight you want with fir, but they might be a touch heavier then that.

Yes, most vendors will give you the spine and physical weight you want, if you indicate what  you want. Most vendors group shafts within 20 grains, i.e., 10 grains plus or minus a given weight.  Some will group them as close as 10 grains total.

Because physical weight can vary as much as 100 grains within a given spine range, you need to specify not only the spine desired, but also the physical weight of the shafts when you place your order.

What Orion said.
And what Biathlonman said too.

You need to specify premium shafts, and the weight range you want. The folks will tell you whether or not they have that range in their stock.
