Mock scrapes

For those that set up mock scrapes,
Do you usually set one up near a real one to fire up a buck?
Or do you set one up even though there isn't a real one near by to try and encourage buck activity in an area?

Depends...Last year I set one up near a real one.
This year, the Buck to Doe ratio is low and there is very little buck sign. I made a mock one with no other sign around and about 2 hours later a big guy running after 2 does came buy it at about 20 yards. He stopped at 30 and snorted 16 times in about 3 minutes. He bedded down for about 10 minutes and the does came back to him!
He sure was looking for a fight! Wish I had had a shot :-(

I got 2 drippers going and plan to set a third tommorrow.
One is set at a gathering area.Another on a rub line and the last I'll probally work a feild edge at a inside corner.

I was considering doing a mock scrape near my latest stand. My nephew and I climed in the stand this morning and behold! A buck had graciously put a real one 10 yards from my stand... IN a shooting lane! Now that's service!LOL!
I dripped some doe in estrus pee in it to keep him interested. May be too early. There's another older(couple days?) scrape about 10 yards from that one. I think I picked a good spot! Hope he keeps hitting it!
