Why I hate new tech
« on: January 12, 2016, 10:47:00 AM »
My son wanted to bring me up to date so he got me a wildgame innovations illusion 12 trail camera(model# i12i20d2) for xmas. well  I put it out 1st just photos day & night great! 2nd time out I tried videos also good the 3rd time out the camera stopped taking night photos and barely day photos, I only got the setup and take down (yup just me) not the  30 or so deer( day & night) we saw from the window near the camera I HATE TECH ! but I don't want to hurt my son's feelings. any suggestions?

My brother got me one about three years ago for Christmas, and I haven't even put it out yet. I started reading the instructions, and got frustrated. I've got another buddy though that knows less than I do about that stuff, and he just put it out,and didn't set anything. It took nice pictures on whatever default setting was there. So I think that's what I'm going to do. It would be interesting to see what all is coming around at night.

On yours if you just put it up,and it quit working, could you send it back for a warranty?

As my Dad got older, I eventually started buying him Christmas presents that I hoped he would like, but that if he didn't, I would.  I ended up with some pretty neat things over the years, after he kept them in his garage or closet shelf for a respectable number of years.  Now that I'm an old man, hopefully my son is getting the same idea.

Just put one of the wildgame cameras up last week.  4 days and same results as you got.  I'm thinking the camera turned off-- could have been user error on my part.  I tested the camera around the house w good results and rehung.  Will know more in a few days.  Looking forward to see how yours resolved.

Sell it to me. lol.  I think I would talk to him about returning if it truely does not work...dont think this would hurt feeling.  If it is a ID-10T error it would be good to ask him to use it with you...put tech onus back on him.

Sounds maybe like a sensor error or a do some testing in the house with distance and light conditions.  Also try sensor settings (fine med high -may want always on high setting.

Thomas,

Dad had the same issue with his Wildgame cam I got him as well.  You need to make sure you have it mounted low enough like 3' off the ground or less.  If not, you get nothing.

They are awesome when you figure them out!

Only way out is to get a tecky to straighten out and let them maintain it so all you do is swap cards and don't mess with anything else.

Those cameras are easy to setup I just give it to my Grandson and tell him which tree to put it on. The pictures always come out great.

Ask your son if he can try it and if it works for him, get him to show you. If he can't get it to work, he might call the manufacturer to get help.

I have had only bad experience with that brand a few weeks to a few months is all they have lasted for me. 3 years from a bushnell is my best. One year and counting on brownings that work well,  The american built ones are a forever, but the are $600

I had an issue first time after changing game card! Then read distructions again and found out ( you need to manually turn camera back on each game card is removed) . This helped . I use camera for security in yard and works great.

Keep in mind that these camara's have temperature limits.  I put mine away for the winter becuase cold batteris just don't provide the needed voltage.

Made sure that my camera was on and that motion indicator (red light) was showing good operation.  Camera is working well and taking great daytime and decent night time photos.  Seems like wildgame makes some decent stuff--- I have one of their feeders and it works great too.

I have 4 WGI cameras. I've bought each new for no more than $50, the newest one being 2 years old, oldest being close to 10. They all work fine, except that the oldest takes white out pictures at certain light levels.
The only other brand I've bought was a Remington for over $100 that wouldn't work straight out of the box.

The settings on mine are pretty straight forward; time of day, resolution, picture or video, and date/time. I leave them out from June to freezing.
I have had multiple SD cards fail after a year or so though.

Ask your son to help you set it up. Assuming the camera is fine, i'm sure you wouldn't have any problems after that.

Make sure you use good batteries in it (duracell is what I use) or they will do some goofy things. Everytime I swap the card in it I format the card in the trail camera then turn it off then back to the on position. Never owned a WGI TC but I have had the least problems with my Bushnell cams doing it this way. Cheap batteries and not formatting the card in the camera gave me fits in the beginning until a friend that runs about 20 cameras told me the above tips.
