looking for suggestions on wind proof clothing (update)
« on: January 17, 2016, 03:53:00 PM »
Mostly a treestand whitetail hunter.  I have kuiu guide jacket and pants and they are very well made.  My major problem with them recently is WIND!  It seems to cut right through it.  I know it is more geared to the mobile mountain hunter. When it is cold 25 or below I have Cabelas extreme berber fleece bibs and parka which are amazing at keeping me warm and blocking the wind.  Looking for suggestions for something windproof and quiet for those above freezing days.  I am thinking fleece outer with some sort of wind block but I am open to any suggestions.  Any input is appreciated.

I ended up getting cabelas berber fleece in the outfitter camo with 4most windshear.  I received it thursday and had a shooting session wearing it.  Went hunting friday afternoon with an approaching blizzard and the deer were moving!!  The clothing was great.  I took one last antlerless deer for my freezer and never got close to being cold.  I had the extreme berber bibs and added the pullover to yesterdays hunt.  I really was impressed.  Price can not be beat right now.  I read complaints of noise but I had NO problem with that.

Thx for all the input
Gary

I use Cabela's windshear wool sweater under my outer garments. Comes in neutral colors and works great.

I have a set of golf wind shirt and pants... mine are actually camo, but worn under a layer, who cares what color it is.  It is soft, quiet, and cuts the wind very well.  On sale they are cheap too.

I use my Mad Dog suede rain gear if it is real cold and windy. It really cuts the wind and is not bulky.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

I have Grey Wolf woolens jacket and pants with the sewn in windstopper liner.  They are warm under ALL conditions to include all day in a blizzard and below zero temps. MUCH warmer than KOM wool

Just my 2 cents but these things are VERY warm.  Much better with layering with less

Thanks guys.  I have the extreme berber cabelas stuff but their regular berber fleece with windshear is on sale now.  Best sale I remember on that stuff.  I also love the outfitter camo.  I may get some and I can always return it.  I have a store 15mins away now!

The first lite looks real nice but I do not have those types of funds available now.

Maybe i will get some sitka gear once I hit the powerball.

I like my wind/rain stopper on the outside. The insulating layer(s) of wool keep me warm if all the warmth isn't blown away.

Predator fleece is dead quiet and has 2 layers of windstop, plus great camo pattern.  Love it.  Non insulated, so it is quite versatile.

Check out day one camoflage I have the wool with wind shear and no insulation using it for the same conditions you described .  I love it   Also have some predator stuff with windshear in fleece its also good ...  both are reasonable compared to sitka..
