New recurve photos
« on: January 20, 2016, 10:31:00 PM »
Got a new Predator from Ron Pittsley. Now I'll have something to play with if we get snowed in this weekend.
While waiting for the bow to arrive I was shooting my widow better than I ever had. Figures right?
The Predator is a pound or so heavier than my current Widow. I only got a few shots after setting it up. And it was cold as hell so my release hand was getting numb. It can't yet tell how I'll do with accuracy but it does have a quiet shot that I prefer over the Widow.
It shows my AD trad shafts as being slightly weak and that is hard to do with those shafts. That seems odd because the Widow shows them slightly stiff and is cut more past center.
Plenty to experiment with!
The new Predator is 60@31  62" bow. It seems to really drive and arrow. It has 1" less brace height than my PCH.

Congrats on the new bow. That's one of the better looking predators I've seen.

I did put my own 452X string on it. The string from Predator was a bit too thick at the serving to fit my nocks and it has adjustable loop size. I never saw that before and I'm not about to figure out how the heck they twisted that up!

The nice thing about the wood combo...it's just their standard future wood. Don't need to pay for exotics. American maple with their Future Wood process.

Nice bow Tedd, very underrated/overlooked bows in my opinion. I have shot several of them and I once owned a widow. Really liked my widow but it was loud. The predator has all the shooting capabilities as the widow does and like you say is much quieter. I once met Ron in a bow fishing camp at LBL. Seemed like a super nice chap.

Anyway congrats and don't wear that shoulder out. I thought the rule was going with lower poundage the older you got?

Very nice looking. And, I agree they are very underrated. Fast, quiet and easy on the eye's. Ron went to a flared accent stripe, and I really like the looks of that. Enjoy.

I've always liked the looks of those predator's. I need to try one soon. How about a braced and full draw pic when you get a chance?
Plant a fruit or nut tree today, and have good hunting tomorrow.

Sorry I will get some photo up ASAP. Like everyone else it's dark when you leave and dark when you get home. I got a few minutes tonight and worked on tuning it. I was having trouble getting anything to bare shaft well at all. No matter what I tried, all shafts were nock left- point right and usually hitting to the right. I couldn't figure out which way I had to go. I tried a bunch of sizes. It just wasn't making sense. After it got dark I did finally raise the brace from 7 1/2" to 7 7/8" and I think that did it.  Couldn't see real good though.
Most say 7 3/8" to 7 1/2" brace.  I'm assuming most shooters have a 60" bow. My bow is a 62" so that higher brace should be ok. Anyone have brace height recommendations for their Predator?  I'll get some photos up on Saturday.
Thanks,
