big boar
« on: February 04, 2016, 02:44:00 PM »
Went out squirrel hunting today to find the woods completely flooded. I was just thinking no way am I going to get stalk off and heard what I thought was a fight to the death in the distance. Being nosy and adrenaline pumping I grip my longbow and trudge through. At about 100 yards i could make out a shape in the trees and plenty of chatter. Thought maybe a hawk got a squirrel. At 60 I figured out it was a coon! Well 3. I put a broadhead on at this point but remembered season ended the 31st so I stalked on with a camera.i watched for about an hour or so. Learned alot on there behavior and wide vocal range. What a great morning to be in the woods!

I used to trap a lot of the cinnamon or yellow looking coons around here, they are called Missouri ditch coons and are usually lighter colored..we also have the silver/black phase which we call timber coons..

Wild hogs can be meaner then snot... but an enraged boar coon is not to be taken lightly... they've drowned more then a few dogs when taken to water, and are just pure-T meaness!

More'n one old nasty boar in the woods!

Looks like a cool morning, thanks for sharing
The season gave him perfect mornings, hunter's moons and fields of freedom found only by walking them with a predator's stride.
