Macassar ebony,Bolivian rosewood, or cocobolo would be my choices but I'm partial to dark woods.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Tom, I'm partial to dark woods as well. I was also thinking about some figured Koa and have been searching for pics of it in a bow with little luck. This is the only pic I could find...

You might be surprised how well Chechen or walnut would go with black

I have a Bob Lee that's all  black micarta  with black and white ebony accents( as mentioned several times!)...its awesome

Depends on how much contrast you want, everything goes with black. Curly maple, Osage, Myrtle for more contrast or Ziricote, Maccasar Ebony, Coco for less contrast. Black and White Ebony would be awesome if you've got that option.

I had a Big Jim that had a black and white ebony riser with Gaboon ebony.

With black and white ebony limbs.It was a looker

That's a good question... I have a buddy that is helping me build them and he ordered the stuff... great big 'ole piece and it weighed a ton...

I'll see if I can get some info for you...
