Enough helical
« on: February 25, 2016, 12:34:00 PM »
I was just noticing that my last eat arrows done with a Bitz jig have a lot less curl in the fletch than my old arrows done with a BPE antique. Can I adjust the Bitz for a little more spin ? Do I want more spin? Thanks guys

Yes, you can adjust it.  Bitzenburgers come with either a left wing, right wing or straight clamp.  Loosen the set screws on the two knobs and turn them with the clamp on the jig and an arrow in the jig to position the clamp so it touches the arrow along the clamp's entire length. You can do a little offset with the straight clamp, and a lot of helical with either of the left or right helical clamps.

Should you have more?  That's up to you.  Even a straight fletch will spin because of the natural curvature of the feather.  If you shoot with a lot of weight forward, not as much fletching or helical is needed to guide the arrow.

Just remember the helical or twist in the clamp is set by Bitzenburger and you can't increase or decrease that rate of twist. What you can do is change the offset to give more spin to the arrow by fiddling with the knobs.

As you put more helical into it, you will get slightly less velocity out of it.

If you are doing carbons you can't get as much offset as you can on woodies due to the diameter of the shaft or you loose Fletch contact.

I shoot mine four up,no worries, no cock feather to fiddle with. I also use a straight fletch clamp.
