New HolmMade River Runner
« on: February 25, 2016, 01:46:00 PM »
I received my new bow from Chad yesterday. Fred will be posting some pictures of it for me. Thank you Fred!!! I shot a few arrows last night and I love it. As many on here already know, Chad is wonderful to work with. He beat his estimated lead time and as you will see, his work is amazing. It is a thing of beauty. I had asked for Chad to try 46# and it came in at 47.5#. Ironically, I was exactly 47.5 years old on 2/11/16, about when he was working on the bow. I am hoping that is a great omen. Next step will be getting some arrows set up. Thank you Chad....you are awesome! Thank you Fred for posting the pictures!

Beautiful

I have been meaning to stop in and meet Chad and look at his work. I have a cabin 75 miles north of Brainerd, but always go up hwy 64 west of there. Got to call him and set up a time.

Absolutely Beautiful Rick! Love the limb veneers! Are they quilted maple? Very nice riser wood and limb veneer choice. Best of luck with her.

Flatshooter, I believe the limb veneers are tamo ash.

Thanks for all the comments guys. Yes, the limb veneers are Tamo Ash. I live 7 hours away or I would love to stop and see Chad. If I ever get up that way I will do so for certain. I met Chad a few years ago at a Trad archery show in Waterloo IA. I was looking for my first traditional bow after 20+ years with a compound. Chad was as nice then as he is now. Anyway, I decided on a different bow and bought too much draw weight. I tried to use that bow for 1.5 years, but struggled and went back to the wheels. After two years with the wheels I realized they just didn't work for me anymore. The successes I had were hollow. Over the years I killed many deer and many nice bucks using wheels, but the thrill was gone. I needed more out of my bow hunting experience so I recommitted myself to trad. I jumped back on this awesome forum and found the desire again. I remembered my meeting with Chad.....how nice he was and how I liked his bows, so I called him up. We chatted about my situation, my previous trad experience, and where I should start this time. So here I am. I have some trad experience, but I am still a rookie at best. So, when you ask how I like the thumbrest, I like it. It feels normal to me because all of my compounds, and my one previous recurve, had a thumbrest. Don't be surprised if you start seeing some questions from me as I restart my journey. You guys are always so helpful. This forum is a great resource. Thank you.

Beautiful! You guys are killing me. Still using the old PSE "free" longbow until I figure out what I want. I shall be patient.

Beautiful bow.

Awesome workmanship.

I like the grip.

Can a grip like that be put on a longbow?

Congrats Fred! I just spoke with Chad... All settled except for the limb veneers. I hope he can find what I'm looking for! If so mine will be finalized next week.
