NY Bowhunter Sighting Log
« on: October 19, 2007, 07:35:00 AM »
Anyone else filling out a Sighting Log? Seems to be a general deer count dealy, hours hunted to Bucks/Does seen and numbers of turkey, fox, coyote, and grouse. I think my numbers will be twisted because I hunt the family doe groups and hope to catch a buck moving with them, and I see the same does every day, different area's but the same does. Deer numbers are down in this area, and they still give out doe tag's, I got 2 this year and I can get over 40 more for the land we lease, over-kill???

I am filling one out too, but have only been out once so far. I see the same does a lot too. I hope to see a bear or two.
I never got a DMP, and the land I hunt is buck only(landowner prefrence). I hope to take one on state land or at my buddie's place.
First day out I saw a doe, button buck and a nice Coyote....

I would like to fill one out too but the only problem is when I go out I never see anything. It kills me.. Where do you pick these up. Even though I never see anything I would like to get one. Maybe my luck will change

LOL Vermonster....Contact the DEC, they also do Turkey counts and a bunch of other sighting Logs... I should have made clear that we get the doe tags, we dont use them. Of 12 guy's we have 24 doe tags, plus whatever we ask for from the County, up to 50. Thats almost doe 75 tags for a 600 acre piece of 1200...

I have been doing this for years. The more info they get the more accurate the data. It's also fun to make a copy (they used to send you one) and then you can look back over the years and look at your trends.

I got out again this morning. That makes two hunts so far. Added two mature does and a fawn to my log, along with a rather large coyote...
Lots of bear activity in the neighborhood....four bears last night...A large boar was here in my apple tree(my Brit was not happy, and now I know that bears can jump from about ten feet up and land at full speed)....a mother with three cubs at the neighbors, and then another large male, then two more neighbors all with sightings last night. Im hopeful for a shot or atleast some sightings while I am in the woods.
Good luck to the rest of ya. Im hoping to log some more time this weekend in between diaper changes.
