Bear Polar String Length?
«
on:
February 29, 2016, 06:33:00 PM »
I have a 1957, 64" Bear Polar, 50# @ 30" that I guess would be considered a semi-recurve.
Should I get a 60" or 61" Flemish string and would B50 or B55 be the better choice & How many strands?
I only draw 28" so I figure around 44#.
Any idea of brace height?
Thanks

With B50 you could go with a 12 or 14 strand.I would just go with a 14 strand for my self.I generally go 3" shorter for a longbow or recurve. When I make strings for my bows I like to measure the actual nock to nock length and go 3" shorter. Not all bows are accurately marked.Brace height I would go with around 7" to 7&1/2".

The string IS 3" shorter than the bow is marked. If is says 64" the string will be 61". If you measured it to be 64", go to what is marked on the bow and subtract 3". B50 or B55 would be the best choice for a string. I use 14 strand for my 50# bows.

Have two 64-inch K Specials, a '59 and a '60. The '60 uses a shorter string than the '59, and Steve Smith "Bearbowman" who makes four and five colored B-50 strings for my bows said this is not unusual. My '61 and '62 Kodiaks use 55 1/2 inch strings. Wouldn't be surprised if you go with 3 inches shorter that you will be twisting your string up a bit, but got to start somewhere.

12-14 strands of B-55. As Bob stated, string length can vary--try an existing string or use some stout twine with a loop and a timber hitch, then measure with the string on the bow at the proper brace.
