well, the elk season is starting to warm up in my area, starting to hear bulls letting the world know where they are. The coming weeks will tell....
meanwhile, the grouse hunting has been good....5 so far for me and 3 for Zac (my young intern in the longbow fraternity). He's learning just how much fun the longbow is when hunting small game. I almost think he prefers it to big game....certainly he has more chances to shoot. He shot a bear with his longbow this spring and has been shooting close to two bucks and two does already this past week....his time is coming and all I'm doing besides a little shot coaching is letting him have fun...ahh the joy of a well shot arrow!!
anyway, remember Hill talking about his grouse hunting in the 'Book' and how he had to stoop and kneel to get shots at grouse up in the spruce trees? well, I had to do the same to collect mine this past weekend.....we all need to practice this shot position occasionally....
so, which is better, one bird taken on the ground?
or two taken from a tree?
answer: they're all good! and mighty tasty served in the pan, wrapped in bacon with melted cheese and tomato....delightful mountain lunch
