judging by the way Rik is being quiet,  I'd think he's still hunting.....I get a chance this weekend perhaps and then we'll see....somewhere an elk is bugling....

question...if an elk bugles in the forest and no longbowman is around to hear him, does he make a sound?

Mmmm .. puzzling ... philosophy of the straight limb ?

Answer ...
A true longbowman , of wooden arrows and back quivers hears everything ,  for he is above all wisdom and beyond the  understanding of the common man and recurve shooter ... he is lord of the forest and the elk just one of his subjects ...

So there .

Well, the new Hill bow didn't have enough mojo to find me an elk, but it was sheer pleasure toting it around the mountains. Its' next mission will be for whitetails and turkeys, where I am confident that it will draw blood.
It has been extremely dry this year, but there are still pockets of moisture. This pic I took at the only elk wallow I saw this year that was still wet; wallows that have been used for years were just dust this year.
And, if the longbowman is Lord of the forest and elk just his subjects, then they must have rebelled against their lord in my part of the forest this year.

Well,
The NM Whisper arrived today!!!! 64" 55@28 birdseye maple lams and I think tiger maple riser, I'll need ya'lls help on that.  I must say this bow feels good.  I cannot pin point it yet, but something about the forward handle adds a wonderfull feeling to the balance and point ability of this bow.  Smooth draw, and pretty quick I might add.  Pics to come later this week. Only got to shoot a few arrows

I was re-reading Straight Shooting by John Schulz again and was wondering if much if anything is known about Dan Schulz? Seems like he was one heck of a shot. I saw that the book was dedicated to his memory, since he passed away in 1986. I think a story about Dan Schulz would make a good magazine article some day. I think John would have to write it though. I thought I saw in a post the Craig Ekin learned the art of bowmaking from Dan, is there any truth in this?

Day and a half until season starts here in Texas.  Will be the first season for me to take a Hill afield.  Back quiver and All.  Sorry Nate but I will be wearing camo as my plaid is a little to warm for 90 degrees.  Will be hunting from the ground only this year using natural ground blinds and still hunting when the woods are wet.

We will probably be wet this weekend.  Nailed a leaf this evening, dead middle!  Ready for Saturday, getting gear packed.  Gone all weekend bowhunting!  Serenity time is coming.
