From the looks of your C&N it would seem you may really like a Bama Bow. About the same profile.

The snow & cold windy weather showed up as forecasted keeping me inside. Since deer season doesn't reopen until December I decided to stop procrastinating and get on with one of my planned projects. A hill style quiver.

I tried to use many of the suggestions from Sunset Hill plus a few observations of my own. The strap location had me scratching my head the most.First coat of mink oil is drying as I type.

I like this position best. A little bump helps but not necessary.

Brian, what do you like most about that particular hill style bow?  What do you find as a difference you actually notice from others you've owned/ tried?

Nick,
I think it is just the camera angle.  The bow has 1" of reflex.  It is the bowers dads design (the bower is 65) designed years and years ago, he took it over after his father could not build anymore.  It is the only bow he makes. No string follow, No straight limbed or any thing else.

Matt,
That is hard to say.  It actually feels stiffer on the first couple inches of draw as opposed to the Wesely, or the NM classic, but almost  seems easier the rest of the way ???  I know the one big thing for me is that this particular bow has a 5 1/8" grip as opposed to the 4-4 1/2 on the other two. His standard grip is around 4-4 1/2 , but I like a longer grip.  Nothing I couldn't order else ware.  Also the NM and the HHA had boo cores, and this one has Red Elm cores, which is another preference of mine, again nothing I couldn't order elsewhere.  This thing flat out shoots an arrow, and it was faster than my HHA which was 5lb heavier.

So what I really  would need to try is a HHA with a 5 1/8th handle, at 55lbs with Red Elm cores.  Then it would be right there minus limb width.  I will say that this bow shoots very very similar to a Jim Belcher Union Jack.  I have never tried a Bama, but I would like to, seeing as how they may be similar.

I guess this is an American Semi-Longbow, but not of the Hill style if that makes sense, and maybe thats what I prefer, because to date the Union Jack and C&N top the HHA and NM that I have tried.  I have NOT tried a Shrew or Sunset yet.  I have shot but not owned a Shultz and Miller Old Tom, and I will take my C&N and a Union Jack over both of them.  I hope thats clearer than mud for ya. LOL. Its hard to put it into words.

I will say this much,  I had a Deathwish that had a 5" handle 2" deep with red elm cores and I keep trying to convince the guy I traded it too to sell it back. So those things there may be what it is specifically, but I am not totally sure.  I do want to try a BAMA though and I am betting I will like it also.

Just now getting into it.  Been reading this thread for a while.  I am old & sick so I have been watching the classifieds for a used one in 40# for a year.  I gave in and ordered a Super D and a week later a 40# Tembo shows up in the classifieds.  Watched it for a week and no one bought it.  I now own it also.  Don't have either one yet, but should have both within a couple of weeks.  This thread has renewed my enthusiasm in archery.

This thread has been amazing for a lot of us. I also have a new found love for archery thanks to the Hill style and all the knowledge in this thread. I bought 6 Hills and traded for another 2 during the course of this thread and loved each one of them. I made a decision at the beginning of this season to stick with just 1 bow, so I got rid of the rest keeping my 115# Tembo. As the season is winding down the bow buying itch is coming back and I'm already planning my next bow, decisions decisions, decisions...

Thanks for pointing that out Toddster.  We are certainly doing our best around here to make Howard proud.  He would have been 113 today.  My calculator to me so   :D

I guess my new buckskin wrap gave me a little luck!

Here is a nice doe I shot over the weekend for my first "Hill style" harvest.

I had poor clearance and snagged my wool coat on the string that made for an awful shot in the lower ham. A good sharp broadhead and lots of luck later I found her only 75 yards away.

Two4hooking,

Nice Doe, cool bow and wrap and boy what a nice quiver!  A sharp broad head is a deadly thing for sure.

Congrats to you.  :clapper:
