The right shoes make a huge difference.  the LL bean maine shoe is the very best I have found.

The G. Fred Asbell book, Stalking and Still hunting is one of the best purchase you can make to learn the method.

I agree with ChrisM that the Maine Hunting Shoe has a great sole for stalking.  It's very flexible rubber with the chain link tread.  You can feel a lot in these boots.

When it's relatively dry around here I hike around in these.  Woolrich plaid Converse All-Stars.  They are a great shoe to stalk in, but I haven't tried them yet in a hunting situation.  Usually a little too cold, but they are incredibly quiet and flexible.

Like Chris said, the Maine Hunting boot is hard to beat, they are different from the regular Bean boots in that they have a softer sole.

When the weather is warm enough, you can't beat indoor soccer shoes (I wear Sambas) for flexibility and sensitivity.

Uncle Howard's old Indian way of walking quietly with any type of shoe/boot makes for the quietest walking/staking for me.  I have used it for years and once you get used to it, it becomes second nature.

Anyone know what kind of finish John Shulz used on his Ol'Favorite no glass longbows. I've decided to keep mine and would love to learn more about it. It is Yew backed with bamboo with a high gloss finish.

New Cheetah arrived today. 66", t/d, 55@28, with cocobolo riser. Juniper limbs are all I hoped for; very nice! Took it out and shot it, and it is going to be a winner; silent, hits with authority, and has some handshock but nothing that will be a hindrance. Either I tolerate handshock well, or it just isn't that bad.

Long Stick, Why don't you contact David Miller of Miller longbows, and ask him?
He was a student of Schulz, and makes up a bow patterned after the Schulz Favorite.
Congrats on keeping it!
