Cause is twofold.

1.  Not enough back tension resulting in an improper release.

2.  Your string arm needs to to completely relaxed and a deep hook with your string fingers is better than trying to keep the string in the first joint of your fingers.  Deep-hook and relax your arm!!!

But by far the biggest cause of sore fingers is lack of proper back tension.  Sounds goofy I know...but trust me.

Lots of people tend to twist the drawing hand a bit. The resulting twist will turn the palm down and turn the index finger into the arrow which will wear on ones index finger where ever the hardest contact occurs.  Square your fingers up on the string and like Nate said watch that elbow, make sure that you are still pulling with the ring finger to help keep your fingers balanced on the string the same as you had them at the start of the draw.

Pavan, forgot about that. That's what I used to do, twist/torque the string.  Oh how simple traditional archery is..

Thanks all, I don't have finger pinch from the angle of the string.  I have been shooting nock above.  I can see where shooting to much and loosing back tension can cause it thanks.  I have tried the deep hook, just doesn't feel right to me, guess been shooting behind the first pad too long.  Will work on it thanks again all.

You know that is what makes the free enterpize system work, not everyone will like a given product.  But I think that the stick tight is the greatest improvement in shooting gloves since sliced bread.

No more slipping and twisting of finger stalls.

Now I will say that the little one is as cute as they get. However, I need to point out that he seems to have a bit of an attitude when getting his picture taken, considering that left hand thing he has going.

Knapper, It was nice meeting you at Ocmulgee. I enjoyed your company and the shoot we had. Thanks for the use of your target. Glad to see you had a safe trip home.

I wrote a piece about my time and hunting experience on the 2013 Hill Gang thread. You may enjoy reading it if you haven't already.

Well good ol' Shawn Rackley sent me a HHA deluxe glove to try before I buy and I have to say that they are really nice gloves.  You hear all of the negatives about them flying off your hands etc etc, but I just couldn't miss with this one.   I was surprised to find that it did not have near the protection I thought it would.  From what I have read on this and other forums it was made out to where you could not feel the string at all, but It actually has less protection than the AL crossover and the BW stick tight super that I have.   I am still thinking about ordering one though just because its a Howard Hill glove.

If you have been thinking of trying one, just make sure you get the proper size and I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Brian,

the deluxe HH glove has double lining all the way around the finger stall and feels stiff,  the HH standard glove only has lining over the insert and isn't so stiff....perhaps that's the one you tried?

Nate,
I thought the same thing, so I looked it over and it has two layers of leather there. And an insert, is there another discernible difference? It's also the darker leather. What ever the case I give it a thumbs up. HHA puts out some great products

If you want stiff try out the deluxe Bateman all cordovan glove.  That thing is stiff and slick as snot!

I shot a HH glove for 15 years and they were stiff...maybe they are using different leather now.

Yeah the Bateman is real stiff and slick

Knawbone, yes I read it.  I also enjoyed our meeting.  I been going to go back to hunt those elusive hogs but the weather has not been cooperating.  I made a private post to RC but have heard nothing from him.

I started out with a HHA deluxe glove and shot with it for years.  I hate that glove.  I love HHA bows but do not like that glove.  To each their own.  I added this for the newbies so they would have another opinion.  I do though like my American Leathers glove.  It's perfect FOR ME.

I just finished shooting my Schulz American Longbow again. I gotta say that bow is amazing! So 'plain looking' in a world of exotic veneers etc... but it just comes alive in your hand when you shoot it and the arrows slam into the point you're looking again. Magic! This is why I've come to love these bows so much!

I'm with Brazos on the glove issue. I could never get the feel of the HH glove, but love my Am. Leathers Crossover. Different strokes for different folks.
