Shinken, the bow shoots extremely well, very fast for a Hill style bow. I'm having issues with the grip, it is to short for my hands.

I've asked Mike to work with me on a few special details...

68" ntn

47ish at 28

Osage riser 14" fade to fade with 4 1/2" straight grip.

2 3/16" deep grip before leather is placed on handle.

no wider than 1" grip/limbs w/ brown on brown glass OR brown belly clear back. (He's trying to find some green glass for me)

slightly radiused shelf. (still not a definite)

2 lams each maple/bamboo

trapped limbs w/narrow tips.

I'll see Mike this weekend at the NC shoot in Wilkesboro and talk with him about the build.

I like Mike's work. I think more folks should look his way for Hill style and other bows. You can't beat how he backs his bows either.

And he's a bird dog fellow to boot   :)

Most of my older Hill style bows have what seems like a short grip; however, I've noticed no more grip is needed as any more would be excess wood.

You may want to shoot it some more before you rush to sell it as I see it listed and am currently drooling over it wondering what I should sell or trade...

I would agree that is a fairly large investment to give up on with just 60 shots.  I asked my wife if I could spend $1100, she said mean things to me.  I am wondering how that bow looks in your hand. As in, how big is your hand that you run out of grip. Of course, if the grip was a bit less deep, it would be a good bit longer.

On both my Expedition, and also on my Hawk, my grip is similar looking.
Thin, (rather narrow), and deep, front to back. According to David this thin teardrop/wedge grip style, was the style favored by Mr. Hill.

The grip is important; and can be a real distraction when it's not right. I have bought and sold bows, in a heartbeat because the grip was not right.
It's like a pair of shoes .... they gotta feel right.

I think putting your beautiful Expedition in the Classifieds after only 60 arrows shot, is a good move. It assures the next owner, the bow is almost brand new.
With a wait of  .... at least ...... a year and a half for a new Expedition order with Miller, someone  ...hopefully ... will be very happy.

Good luck with that!

Ralph

Bud,
I too am a fan of Mikes work. He is amazing and my dad raised as trained Labs and Brittneys so bird dogs are another passion of mine. I called Mike to talk bows and ended up talking an hour about dogs instead and after I hung up realized I never did order a bow. LOL, I had to call back

The day Jesus received the bow he came over to my house. He shot the bow a few times in my back yard, and right away he knew the grip was too small for what he likes.

Jesus has very large hands, he wear's a XL A.L. glove. He also like's a much larger grip on his bows. He prefers the Shultz shaped grip just larger all around.  This bow is in mint condition, and would be an excellent bow for someone.

I can't blame him for liking the Schulz grip, they are large but have a great feel to them.

Darren-  I put electrical tape on my shelf after I saw your bow in GA.... It's working great and is lasting a lot longer then I thought.

The electrical tape works good with wood shafts, they don't make noise when drawing the arrow. I've also found that cloth medical tape to wrap bandages works good with carbon and aluminum arrows to keep them quiet.

I got mine from a local high end photography shop, places like Guitar Center often have some too.

Thom,   It's time to change the pic avatar associated with your name if you're going to be hanging out on the Hill thread.  I keep checking to make sure I'm on the right thread when I see it!

Well I have been shooting alum and carbons from my Berrys but we have a big shoot in September that goes by IBO rules and if I want to shoot Traditional longbow class I need woodies, so I ordered some sure woods from Surewood Steve ( GREAT guy, and his shafts are amazing). I have them all sealed up and I'll be fletching them this weekend
. Let's hope my second attempt at woods works out better than my last.
