Does anyone subscribe to shooting a shorter-than-"normal" Hill bow for their draw length?

I've got a 25.5" draw length and my only bow, a Schulz Trophy Hunter, is 66". I love it and it fits me great. I'm thinking of ordering a back up from Mr. Miller and I'm considering trying a shorter bow for maneuverability's sake; especially because I hunt whitetails in thick cedar swamps.

So, what are your thoughts on bow length?
I'm new to the Hill style bow, but my Toelke Super D is 66" and I draw 29". I can't say enough good things about it.  I know another tradganger who shoots a 64" Super D with his 29" draw.

I suspect I would need a different sized bow if I went with a different bowyer, but don't have any experience there just yet.

That's what I had Craig do with my Half Breed...named it "Second Chance".  But look at the serial # above...that's what has me guessing.

False cast, a 66" backset bow will fit you nicely, better to be a touch long than too short. Your drawing PAST 25" so you would go up to the next length or 66" for 26" draw.  You could go a 64" in a string-follow profile, personal choice. I shoot backset with a glass bow, the stringfollow glass bows don't "kick" appreciably less.

I draw 26" on a good day and I like 64" stringfollow bows.

Butch and Mudd....Thanks for the info.  Are the Cheetah's marked RH?  Haven't seen one yet so I'm just confirming.

False Cast - David can build you a truly custom bow to YOUR draw length. In my experience I would choose the following:

Backset - 66 inch
Stringfollow - 64 would work great - 66 will feel 'perfect'

A Miller bow will not let you down if you listen to David's recommendations - I love them!

David Miller 'The Expedition' 55@26

Green,
My Cheetah is marked CH, and Craig put the name I wanted on the bow, rather than "Cheetah". Kinda confusing with your bow, but it does look like a Cheetah.   :dunno:

The bow model is determined by the woods that make up the bow.

If you look on the Howard Hill Archery webpage you can read all of the different wood combinations that make up each model.

Usually the letters in front of the serial number lets you know which bowyer built that particular bow.

Making a new bow for myself and the materials are trickling in. So far I have the glass (brown+brown), the lams are ground (3 pair- lamboo),waiting for a special piece of Myrtle that should be here Monday.

Should have it finished by the end of the week and I'm pretty excited about it.

Also building arrows for it and it's sister from Surewood Douglas Fir. Steve got the shafts to me really quick. Super nice stuff. I got the short shafts to save money and there's a very good portion of the 24 that are premium... though they all look primo to me.

At this point I've got one dozen tapered (9"),nocked (Red Bohning Classic), stained, clear dipped, cap dipped, crested and two of them fletched (white cock feather and natural barred hens) so far... I keep my fletcher by my easy chair and work on fletching in the evening while reading.
The second dozen is tapered and stained. Will do the clear coat tomorrow.

Made a brand new armguard to replace my "ancient" guard that still works, but I just wanted a new one. Going with a more "Hill style" cuff guard. We'll see how I like that.

Also have plans for a "summer" Hill pattern back quiver, but need to go to the city for material.

I just love this stuff!!   :archer:

Sounds good Charlie. How 'bout some pics when you can.

Funny....I've seen brown/brown glass bows mentioned a few times on this thread lately. Mine will have an osage riser w/straight grip.

Charlie if I had a tenth of your talent!

I will always be a fan and am super proud to call someone with your knowledge, skill, and integrity a friend and a traditional brother.

I know that some of what makes us who we are wasn't always the most pleasant experiences but like you, I am also proud to have served.(Thanks for yours!)

Come Monday or Tuesday I hope to be posting up some photos of my latest "Dream bow".

God bless,Mudd

Thanks y'all for helping me sort through this.  I forwarded the picture to Craig as there's gotta be a reason for that "R".

One would think that Craig should be able to look up the serial number and tell the story on it?   :dunno:

Hope so.  If I ever were to sell the bow, I'd like to be able to explain it.

Charlie - good luck on your build....any chance of pics as you progress?

Thanks Eric. This one will have proper handle size and if it shoots as good or better as my Classic it will be sweet. I'm making up some new Surewoods today for it. Hopefully they will be spined right. If not they work on my other bows.
