About a week ago my wife surprised me with a HHA bow, I know little about it, no serial number just the length and poundage and a model name I am unfamiliar with. It's the lightest in the hand Hill I've ever had and it sure shoots with authority. Pics will be coming when I can get some decent ones of it, until then this description will have to do. HHA "Lightning", 66" 87#@27, checkered myrtle(?) riser, black glass, ivory overlays and a joy to shoot!

stik, some people have Craig name a bow something other than the usual model name.  I have a friend who had a Redman built but had the name Tecumseh put on it instead of Redman. That could be the case with your new bow.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

That's what I am thinking happened but I sent an e-mail to HHA anyway because I'm really liking this bow and may order a backup like it when finances allow.

Wade - you're a guy who shoots heavy Hill bows. Do you use the Hill / Schulz touch and go or do you hold at anchor?

I love shooting the heavies too but I find with my long hold at anchor practice sessions get foreshortened.....

Ross, that's why I went down in weight is because I hold at anchor. The long shooting cessions with 52# and over were taking it's toll.

I got my refinished Jerry Hill back today.  Happy, Happy.  Had to take the wife to get a new puppy, and by the time I got back it had started raining.  Outdoor pics only for this work.  Manana....

Just wondering what the brace height range should be for a 66" Owl?

Is she getting a "new dog" in retaliation for all of the "new bows"?

Nah - we buried our 16 year old retriever this Spring, and then two weeks ago her middle sons' Malamute got loose and was killed on the highway....he was like a 4th son to my wife.  I buried both of them here, and that coupled with the deaths of at least 7 family friends in the past three months, plus my heart attack, have been kind of hard on her.  New puppies tend to fix stuff like that.      ;)

I add weight to the .38. The nail head adds some....use lead shot for balance.  Sometimes ill make up a batch of weaker spined arrows too....

Generally the arrow is away as soon as I hit anchor, but I'm a hunter first and foremost so I practice holding at anchor, at least a few times each shooting session. I also like to make the neighbors scratch their heads by doing some goofy stuff between shots like sets of push-ups or a jog to simulate a stalk and/or "buck fever". Keeps it interesting at least.

Rob,

The responsibility of caring for the innocent (nothing more innocent than a child or puppy IMO) helps ground us and renews us in the circle of life.  This has obviously been a tough year for you all!  Here's wishing that the simple pleasures derived from a playful pup and a stick and string help with the healing process!

Sincerely,
Kevin
Have a nice day!
