Been working long hours or would have already posted. A Hill bow hunt would be great here and I will take a minute to fill you guys in on details and options.
Fort Stewart would cost you a 60-75 dollar pass and small game lic. Out of state is around 75 bucks I think. You would have to pass a shooting test of 2 of 3 arrows in a 9" plate at 15 and 20 yards. The "test" is only given on thursday and sat and if you fail you have to retake another day.
Fort Stewart had the best public pig hunting in the South and the most snakes.Really.
Ga. WMA`s. Cost you the same on the small game lic and I think 125 bucks for a wma tag. Some have decent pig hunting but in Feb they have been hammered and are tuff but you can get on them.I work on weekends and hunt them during the week and usually will not see anyone all week.On the weekend it can be crowded with small game hunters with squirrel dogs. If you want to kill a pig here come in the Spring during turkey season.River stages dictate the "best" wma to hunt the time and that changes a lot.Pig hunting is best in the Spring here.
Tarponnut has his  place that will be "controlled" as far as a crowd goes and I know that part of the State because my Dad was born there. It has lots of pigs. You again would buy a lic and pay his fee. If Feb was the best time for most I would recommend here.
I always take a week in the Spring off and camp and hunt usually in March. I take another the last week of Sept and another in Oct. I hunt WMA`s then and do purty good.I always welcome stickbow hunters.
You can go to a lot of places in the South and see hog sign and have a good chance of getting on pigs and have a great time . You can see 60 a day or none in 3 days. Its hunting. I would like to join you fellers if you decide to come down.RC

Tradlongbow (Darren)

I only know RC by reputation but I can tell you that he is a bonafide expert on hunting South GA and has killed more game than I have ever seen.

If he is willing to show us the way, I would respectfully suggest that we take him up on his kind offer.

I would consider it a great privilege just to be a part of this little adventure!

Hill Gang-

We all agree that RC is a hog killing machine, and I've been trying to get with him for several days because he would be our best go to guy for hunting information in this area. He lives in that area and told me about 3 WMA's, that would be really good. I hope to talk with him on the phone today.

I also sent a text to tarponnut and asked if we could shoot deer on the lease if we have a chance.

Once we get all the info together, dates etc. I'll post them. I've heard some guys want the lease and some want to hunt public land. I just want to walk away from this weekend with memories and friendships that I will never forget.

I'll keep you informed.

****Please read****Updated****

After reading RC's pm, his recommendations was to hunt Chickasawhatchee WMA, 19,700 acres. The season ends Feb 29.

I found this article about Chickasawhatchee, it looks promising.
    http://www.gon.com/article.php?id=141

I contacted Georgia Fish and Game, and talked with one of their officers. The cost to hunt this area would be $73.00 WMA license and $20.00 for 3 day hunting license for out of state guys. I think this is a real good deal. There's also lot's of free camping space. Several of our brothers that live in Ga. told me they could bring camping equipment.

I was told Fort Stewart is loaded with hogs, and you don't need a WMA license, only a hunting license $20.00 and Fort Stewart permit $60.00. However, it probably won't work because there is archery qualification by appointment only.

After I read everyone's concern about dates, it seems that 2/22, 23, 24 would be best.

I'd like to say thanks to Darren also for his work on this. It'll be a whole year to wait, but this should be a heck of a good time!

I wonder if a 125g-150g two blade would have done the same on that pig. 480g vs 580g.
Any similar sized "Hill" Pig Kills with the 125g cedar arrow set up???

Rik's question sort of got lost in the hunt plans--back to the talk about Hill bows--does anybody else find the difference in width of Hill bows that he mentioned?  My older model Tembo built when John Schulz was the bowyer is quite a bit wider than my newer Hills. My Wesley and Redman are the same width.
The years accumulate on old friendships like tree rings, during which time a kind of unspoken care and loyalty accrue between men.

Maybe we need a separate thread for the "Hill" hunt.  I have suggested a separate forum for all things Hill.
