Josh-

That looks loike John Lee's display. Several of those bows are heavily reflexed or straight limbed. Did you see any of Howards bows that were stringfollow?

Sorry for the bows that don't fit into the HH style...I was going for an overall group photo.

I'm sure there were some string follow but I have a hard time telling them apart sometimes (rookie here)...those were all I took.

The full size photo's show a lot more detail but I kept them to the 640 width so it's hard to tell exactly what is what.

The pics are great! I was just wondering if you seen any of Howard's bows that were stringfollow.

Boy...I sure love those antiqued white glass bows...seems that back then people didn't worry so much about camoed limbs and yet they still shot plenty of animals

Acording to David Miller Howard didn't shoot many stringfollow bows .  He said that david shultz is the fellar that really got tose started after shooting an english bow with string follow and remebering Hills statement about accuracy.

BTW I counted 5 strign follows.  Two in front of the quiver and one past the single white recurve on the left, and two standing up by the leather clothes.

I would look at the  all wood bows  of his, probably all string follow, and in the "hunting weight" of the 80-100# range.
The glass bows, built with some "speed to burn.......
I would too if I was after large animals, such as wild pig, african critters, with cedar arrows, no EFOC, ha ha    :smileystooges:   , 150g broad heads, out to 60yards!! Especially if I was used to shooting 85# concave/convex, split-bamboo that would cut through any piece of cheese out there.

Jesse, how are you getting along with that new Miller longbow? I sure like my new Hawk. Oliverstacy thanks for posting the photos of all the Hill collectibles I wish I could have attended. John Lee is a serious collector and a grear guy and was a friend of Howards. Ron.

Bill I've got the Redman with cocabolo but I would love to see a pic of the Redman with ebony. Kpaul I also haven't shot much of anything else since I picked up my 70" HH at Comptons last year during the blanket sale. Didn't think I would be picking it up so often as my bow of choice since it was 70" but I guess size does matter.

Hey Ron, that Hawk is doing just fine. Once the shot is gone ,it is, back quiet. No vibes, clicks, clacks, or boings, just a swift, quiet shot. I think he chose the appropriate name for them.
Hand tapered 27" cedars, w/160g heads. About 530g total.

The display photos that Josh posted was  a mix of Bob Burton, John Lee and David Miller.
The Lee built bows are on the rack with the "side Plates" that John uses.
The bows hanging vertical are from Mr.Burton.
Also pictured are Howards Buck skins, and a Fletching jig from the 20's. Numerous quivers of Howards are with the Burton bow display.
It was very, very cool stuff to see in one place.
I spoke to David about his bow building and glass workings. He had some gorgeous bows to look at. That man has it going on.
Steve Turay and I had some pics taken with a few of Howards bows. I Hope to have my copies soon

Fellow Longbowmen, Gather 'Round,

I bring good news-----you can now begin registering for the North American Longbow Safari, which as you know, is being held this year in the stunning Stanley Basin at the base of the Sawtooth Mountains. Perhaps the largest mountain meadows and craggiest peaks you will ever rest your gaze upon.

I found the following description in the link to the online sign-up sheet. It does seem to capture the spirit rather well.

DESCRIPTION:
The North American Longbow Safari started in 1983 to create a gathering of shooters who share a passion for the longbow.

Trying to preserve it's history and simplicity in this ever changing world of archery. Courses are designed to recreate the adventure and excitement of the traditional bowhunt and safaris completed by Howard Hill and others.

Today the Excitement still lives on.

Website:     www.idahotraditionalbowhunters.com

P.S. Here's a little eye candy for those of you not quite sure if you would enjoy spending a few days in God's country over a good, long Fourth of July Weekend-----but be warned---one look at these two links of the Stanley Basin and you'll be a gonner for sure!
