I got my latest issue of Traditinal Bowhunter in the mail today.  G. Fred Asbell did a nice interview with Steve Turay of Northern Mist.  At the end of the interview, Fred mentions what a nice guy Steve is and I couldn't agree more.  Each year at Denton Hill I always stop by Steve's booth to admire his work. I make my own Hill style longbows and will probably never buy one, and Steve knows this as I was carrying one of my bows with me last year, but he still took time to talk bow design with me.  He also looked my bow over and gave me a few pointers in the craft.  If I ever do decide to buy a new bow, it will likely be Shelton from Steve.

Anyway, great guy, great interview, and I certainly recommend checking it out in the latest issue of TBM.

I can't wait to see that interview with Steve. Anyway, many don't realize that G. Fred developed his "swing draw" after taking 'Hill Style" lessons from John Schulz. John confirmed this in an early article (1996) featured in TBM. It always amazed me how he never gave John any kind of credit in his books. His whole style is based around John's instruction, this is why it works so well.

I will agree with privious posts ... Steve is a great guy.  He is a heck of a hunter as well.  I am excited he will be going on the Hill Hog Gathering.

Well hopefully my IT incompetence doesn't cause me to come unstuck here. If everything goes according to plan this should be a pic of my new Cheetah and back quiver. The bow shoots like a dream, is 54@26 and has a wine colored wrap with ebony riser.

Hope everyone enjoys (and this upload attempt works). lol

Hello brothers..

Just so you know...I have reverted back to my original handle, Macatawa.

I have used that since a couple years before TG was born with the exception of these past eight months or so.

Macatawa means "black water" in an local native dialect.  It is the name of a lake on which the shores and waves I played when I was a wee lad.

Same guy...old name...

What bow are you bringing on the hog hunt?

@Darren,

Now that is a CHALLENGING question! Lol

If I bag a deer with one this fall I'll bring the other to the hog hunt. Otherwise all bets are off.

...and all that's based on the supposition that I don't cave in on another purchase... Maybe a Miller split bamboo? ;-)

Ross, just be like most of us and bring them all    :biglaugh:     Oh and you should probably just give in and order a Miller too.

I'll be bringing my Owl, my Big Five on the hog hunt.... But that Cheetah of yours has my wheels turning on another order, good thing I have Craig on speed dial.

Haha wade! And here you are telling me to place another order! Let me know what specs you choose for that Cheetah.

I suspect you're right though, why not just bring them all?

A question on the Cy Johnson bow.  It's dated 1933.  I didn't see the bow and information documenting the date when it was sold.

Does anyone remember how it was determined this bow was from 1933?
