Didn't American Leathers used to offer a Hill-style glove? Couldn't fine them on the website...

CB,

Thanks, very helpful. Just eyeballing it it looks like a much larger tolerance than that.

Yes, they are not in the current lineup of gloves.

Regarding the Hill glove, I removed the nylon/plastic insert and it still seemed a little stiff for my taste.  So, I took it to a shoe shop and had them remove the inner leather lining.  I know....I just like thin leather between me and the string.

Guys, I have been toying with the idea of building Hill gloves. The problem is getting cordovan for the finger stalls and having the price still be reasonable enough that guys would buy them. Bateman is the only ones truly doing it now.

flint,

I have built a couple and neither one was up to par.  I think the cordavon is the way to go for durability.  I am also thinking of building my own, but in the same boat with the cordovan leather.  Anyone know of a supplier for cordovan?

For the amount you guys need for a glove, why not ask around for an old pair of cordovan leather shoes to cut up or look at a thrift store for a pair. Lots of quality cordovan out there to be reclaimed.  I'm betting the cost would be free!

The only place that I know of is Brettuns Village, its EXPENSIVE when they can get it.

Or Horween tannery in Chicago

Horween in Chicago. Best and only Cordovan. Over here I got it from an orthopaedics shoemaker (quite expensive 55$ for a 6"x10" piece). You have to look out for the thickness!

I agree with Molson, a thrift store will probably be the cheapest place to buy it and the leather will be already broken in.

I don't think you could rely on scrap leather if you are going to sell them. If it was just one glove I'd get the Bateman and modify it how you want.

I had a Howard Hill and Bateman tad long while. The problem that I found was the leather was too thick around the stalls and I couldn't get a good hook on the string. After reading Jerry Hill's suggestion, I cut the tips of the stalls. It made a huge difference in my shooting, and I felt that I had a better hold of the arrow.

I agree with Ari, the Bateman is a bit much nicer. The difference for me is that the stalls fit tighter on the Bateman.

Guys, if I build them to sell I will not use recycled leather. If you want to play around with designs that is the way to go though. Steve Schulz used to make a great glove, bateman are the only ones now in my opinion making a great glove in that style.

Just finished up a bow I'm going to donate to our United Bowhunters of Illinois banquet that's coming up next weekend and wanted to share it with you guys.

It's a three lam Hill-style bow, all osage, 66" ntn and #55 @ 28". It's got clear glass back and belly, clean tips, and about 1/2" of reflex.

Oh, and forgive my form in the full-draw pic... this is a right handed bow and I'm not!
