Just finding the right arrow spine.  I draw 60# @ 26", 26" arrow to BOP, and I am shooting 55-60 with 225 grain on the front.  I can shoot heavier spine but this shooting pretty good.  1/4" is quite a bit outside center.  I have some 50-55 I am working on that are fir, I am going to try for a 190 gr. point.  These are target arrows with field points.

How wide is that shelf and could you post another picture with an arrow, showing the arrow overhang, if any (to the left of the wedge) and the bottom clearance?

Would a radiused shelf do the same job as keeping the shaft between the wedge and strike plate? Incidentally, why don't the true Hill style bows use a radiused shelf?

I can tell you that the arrow sits on the wedge.  A 23/64" arrow is wider than the shelf.

All kidding aside, Nate sure put together a beauty there. You aren't kidding, it doesn't get much quieter than that! Looks like she shoots as sweet as she sounds too!

That piece of leather sticking up makes my arrows inconsistent. I can't use one. Now just for fun I wonder what would happen if I floated the arrow as you suggest.

I really can't think of what I might gain though.  A cleaner arrow? Hunting it seems to add a level of additional variability and I have a hard time imagining that I would be able to focus on game and not wonder where the arrow ended up on the rest.

Kind of a modified drop away arrow rest....?

all that rest stuff is just to have a starting point for the arrow launch.  the arrow doesn't slide across the rest when shot, it jumps up and away from the rest.  getting the sideplate closer to the bow adds in tuning ease.  the arrow shelf extension is just that, making the shelf wider.  the taller extension is to make an arrow holder which helps keep the arrow on the rest in a fast shooting situation, or when on stand, or when stillhunting.  my arrows don't tough the shelf extension when the arrow is on the rest. and the arrows fly up and away from the extension.  some fletching combos might hit the extension causing erratic flight.

Not a "glassed" bow.
The only glass is the little piece glued to the bottom of the riser piece of walnut. I did that to provide a more flexible fade out for the walnut to prevent lifting of the riser piece.

I did put a piece of carbon in it just under the backing bamboo. It seems to add spunk without adding noise or being shocky.

The bow started out with back set but finally settled into about an inch and a half of set. Just about right for my tastes.

I always make my grips smaller than most. That one is 3 3/4" from edge of leather to edge of leather.

I've made a few that were 3 1/2", but that seems to be a little too short.
