moleman, wicked nice bow, looove the cedar! With all the great pics of straight handle hill style bows on this thread i gotta try one!!! My Hill has a locator grip, and although I shoot it great and it's very comfortable, I'm still wondering how the straight grip is.Anyone that owns a straight grip Hill style live in N.H.? lol, I've owned and shot a dished grip, but didn't like it... Guess I'll have to order another bow this year, lol, 2 in 1 year, wooo, I'm spoiled!!! The wife OK'd it so I'm good to go, thinkin' of a cheetah maybe with inner lams out of Yew, string follow ofcourse!!! What do you guys think, J   :campfire:

jbat73,

A cheetah with yew core ... oh my, that would be awesome!!  I am a yew fanatic.  That with the cedar back and belly would be light , quick and sexy man!

I love dished grips by the way, with a close second to straight.

Ya Bob, maybe I can work Sexy into the name somehow and what about a riser, suggestions are welcome from all? Gonna try this next bow string follow without limb tip overlays, or would that be a mistake? J   :campfire:

While we're on the subject of grips, can someone educate me? My Hill has a straight grip. I find it can be difficult to get a consistent hold on the bow with the straight grip. I have had a tiny bit of experience with a straight limb bow that had a locator grip. The feel of a dished grip is foreign to me.

I understand the feel of the grip is personal and everyone likes something different. But what makes you like the straight, or the dished, or the locator over the others? I am thinking about having Craig reshape My grip and would like to be able to make an educated thought out decision.

Thanks guys!

I agree with going with the recommended brace and work from there.  Mine are 68" and like 6 1/4--6 1/2. I tried lower and it just didn't work well for me.  It varies by bow and individual so don't worry about that if it fixes your arrow flight. A few really like the low brace heights here and they probably have better form or a different design of bow.  My bow with no glass likes a little lower, but it's also shorter so that's the recommendation. You can always raise it to 6 3/4 and work down.

First let me say i am not too good at writing but i would like to say something about Nate steen's Bows.I started shooting a lemon wood longbow in 1957 and then a Howard hill made by John Schultz and then a Schultz when he started making them for himself and then a Pete George when john stopped making glass bows. Two mouths ago Nate sent me a 66" 54@-26 Bamboo Brown glass Myrtle wood handle this bow is one of the best shooting bows i have ever had the tiller and the timing is right on, he built the handle just as I asked him to, and the workmen ship is great, I would have to put him in the same class as John Schultz and Pete George, because they built the best Hill style bows ever

Pat,for years I had the same dilema as you ,I just couldn't get used to a straight grip.I tried and tried. Now with a good firm grip, wrist down and bent elbow it one day just caught on.i'm shooting my new Westley better than any bow I now have.It kinda reminded me when I was learning to ride a bike. One day it just happened .Like many others have said the crown of the handle runs right down the lifeline of your palm.keep at it ,it will work.

Rod, I don't know about your other bows, but Nate's bows shoot real  nice.  I can't put mine down.

I picked "I AM" and "Trinity" and went outside to shoot some flames.

I didn't pick either bow for any particular reason, just picked the one that was hanging closest to me.

The candle was lit,I drew one of my "Snag" arrows from the back quiver, came to anchor and let "Trinity" take it away from me.

Much to my satisfaction the flame was snuffed out on that 1st arrow.

I decided that was enough, packed it all up and went back inside...lol

God bless,Mudd

PS: I had been shooting both earlier today.

I haven't had the chance to handle one yet but based on the solid reviews I'd really like to get one ordered if he ever gets caught up and opens the order list.

I tried that once. Didn't set the candle far enough in front of the bale. Not only didn't snuff out the flame, but I also burned up my fletching.
