Fling Blade, Cool Bow!. I would not shoot that bow with fast flight. Riser looks like maybe a non-fancy grade of myrtle, but hard to tell. Thanks for sharing with us,

Thom is getting the Hill Bug It appears,

Pat, What a whopper of a pig. That picture is just great. I think if you and RC ever stepped foot into the same swamp to hunt pigs, the pigs would all run out the far end as fast as them stubby legs could motor. Born pig killers you two.

Just catching up on this threead and ran across this. So, you have to shop but my cheapest dozen of xx75s to date was purchased this February at Academy Sports. I found a box ot XX75 2117s, precut to 29" for $20.99. They shoot marvelously out of my 60# Schulz.   :bigsmyl:

Great pics! Bow and Hogs!

So just for fun...I got a little fired up tonight.

I have had great luck with Craig at HHA hitting weight on  bows so i never worried about it.  I scaled my T/D and scaled it at 5# over!!!!!   Over my max that is, so it's just work to shoot it.  I will certify it with another scale before having it reduced.

Flingblade

Please don't use fast flight on that vintage bow.
You have a real jewel there . I would recommend contacting Craig Elkin at Howard Hill Archery, for his take on the history and authenticity  of the bow.

Good luck

Don't worry guys, I'd go kick him in the shin if he tried to put a fast flight string on it. Really neat bow, and radically different than any Hill bow I've see in person before. Those tips are impossibly small and perfectly shaped. Really something to behold!

Chuck, it's more like a relapse of Hill Fever but I think it's much worse the second time around  :)

Awesome hog Pat!!!

Thanks for all the info on the bow everyone!  Interesting to hear the riser is myrtle as my grandfather was a widower three times and his second wife's name was Myrtle.  I'll get ahold of the contacts listed to investigate further.  And I'll get some full length photos on as soon as I can.

Gary, If you come to GLLI,Please bring that bow. I would love to see it,and I know Steve Turay from Northern Mist would as well. Thom knows how to find me.

Matt, Give Craig a call on your bow. He is ALWAYS great to work with. He is always willing to help and do good stuff. You already know that.

Craig and/or Bob can surley help you with some info on your bow as well Gary.

See you guys in a couple weeks.

I had a couple issues with HHA least year in relation to a bow and some arrows I ordered. Craig was a true gent and made sure everything was set right - I'm sure he'll sort you out with the over weight bow.

I've  had good luck with HHA, for sure Chuck.  I wondered why it was a strain, and why it shot faster than expected! I'll call him once I verify weight on several scales.

****verified 4.6# heavy!

Craig said he'd fix it and usually 3-5# they can get off.

Gary, how about you bring it to my place tomorrow morning and we'll leave it in the AC here while we shoot 3D. I could snap the pics and load them up when we get back.

Other than some unstrung profile pics, anything else anyone wants to see that hasn't already been posted?

Great bow you have there, Thom.

When looking at the picture you posted that contains the grey leather wrap there appears to be some writing in black ink that is mostly obscured by the leather. You might want to gently peel that edge back to fully see thw writing.

While looking at some of the bows in John Lees collection from Howard was astonished to see so many with backset and some with quite a lot. Thanks John for bringing your collection to the Expo.

That's Flingblade Gary's bow, I'm just taking pictures of it and hosting them.

I had no idea if that leather grip was original so I didn't want to peel it up, but knowing that's where my Hill bows were marked I did look closely and I think it's only in the picture. We'll get a better look at it and some more pictures soon.

Surprised at the amount of backset on Howard's bows?

I know a lot of guys are interested in string follow bows lately, I am not a fan, but each has an opinion.   I never found a glass SF to produce any better groups or add anything over a standard backset.

I know someone quoted him about string follow bows, but I wonder if that was prior to the period where fiberglass became heavily used?? Also, he seemed to use backset from the photos of bows I've seen with glass and the collector bows. In  pictures he used a reverse handle bow some as well, although I have no idea how much, and seemed to be for trick shooting.

Any known answers to these questions?

Well - the bug has just bit me again.... Got myself down on the waiting list for a David Miller.

Can anyone share some comparative experiences between his glassed and all wood bows to help me make my mind up on what I'm after?

Well I'm shootimg woodies out of my Union Jack now!!!! I have 6 POC and a doz Western Larch that I made myself. First time making woodies and I'm loving them. The bow loves them and the house is happy. I do need to get some game heads though because I shoot at balls as stuff in the yard and the FPs aren't cutting it.
Do blunts burry under the grass too? Should I buy glue on Judos, blunts or hex heads for shooting at stuff in the grass? What are yalls experience?
